Well, you didn't say what year model bike you're working on but if the bike has the early connectors, you need a pair of special tools to "unpin" the plugs. If your bike is later than 1996, I think, it probably has Bosch type connectors. These things come apart but it's like one of those Chinese puzzles to me. I have gotten them apart but I have to figure each different one out. The service manual tells you how to get them apart. May be a site online that will tell you.

Good luck
Steve

Why are rear brake lights and gas gauge not working after installing ape hangers?

Hi P Rooke, you either have some wires hooked up incorrectly or pinched them in the handlebar control housings. If you disconnected your battery you might need an alarm reset. First check all of your fuses, then get out your test light and start checking for continuity in the offending circuits starting at the fuse box. For more information about your issue, please visit the websites below, and for specific information or questions, please feel free to contact me at xlch@mail.com. Good luck and have nice day. How to replace radio in 2004 blazer

REMOVE THE BEZEL IF ITS NOT SCREWED IT WILL BE CLIPPED SO BE GENTLE AND FIRM WHEN REMOVING AS NOT TO BREAK IT. WHEN YOU REMOVE THE STEREO ENSURE YOU PURCHASE THE INSTALL KIT FOR YOUR YEAR AND THE WIRING HARNESS. THEY CAN BE BOUGHT AT WALMART EBAY WHERE EVER. THE HARNESS IS MADE FOR THE VEHICLE SO IT PLUGS INTO THE EXSISTING WIRING AND YOU CONNECT THE WIRES FROM THE NEW RADIO TOGETHER . THE COLORS SHOULD BE THE SAME ZIP ZIP DONE! ALSO THERE ARE VERY GOOD INSTRUCTIONS WITH THESE KITS. GOOD LUCK

If you have removed the steering wheel, then make sure you have a lock plate remover to remove the lock plate. Then remove the one screw holding the turn signal lever, after removing the horn rotor, and spring.there are three screws holding the turn signal switch in place ,you may need to move the turn signal like you are turning to the left or right ,to access the screws.Remove the bezel under the dash above where your knees would be sitting in the seat. You will see a long flat plug connector, the whole connector will slide off the steering column, and then disconnect the harness and cut the end off with wire snips(the end going up in the steering column. Then gently pull up on the turn signal switch and pull switch and wire from column.Installing the new switch by using a coat hanger as a guide ,tape the new turn signal switch harness plug end to one end of the coat hanger wire.Take the opposite end of the coat hanger wire and guide it back down in the same area of the steering column, and put everything back as you removed it,hope this was helpful thank you.

I put pre wired ape hangers on my 98 fatboy, and everything works fine except the horn comes on as soon as I turn the key on. I checked and all the wires match up

Check to make sure the wire is not pinched or the button is not engaged. I had the same problem when installing my T-Bars and found that the wire was pinched when installing the controls. Hope this helps

Iwant to install a set of 14" to 16" chubby ape hangers on my 05 road king and I was wondering if anybody sells a kit with cables and wiring extensions.

Nobody sells a kit specifically for this job but the parts are available. Custom Chrome sells the wiring extension kits. Barnett offers or will make us a set of cables for you but you must tell them the length of the cables. Once you figure out how long the cables need to be, you may find that they've already got them available. I usually put the bars on and then use stiff wire to "fabricate" a cable. Once you get the wire run like you want it, take off and measure it. This is the cable length you need. You can go to Barrnett's website and they've got a page that tells you how to measure the cable from the total length that you got using the wire.

Good Luck

@sbcglobal.nethow long should the clutch cable be on a 1997 harley davidson fatboy with 18 inch ape hangers

I usually use a piece of wire and tape it the original cable until the cable stops. Then, I run the wire on up to the clutch lever. Remove the wire and measure it.

Then go to Barnett's site and order the cable or see if they've got a "ready made" cable.

Installing replacement side mirror on 2007 Subaru Forester

yes... you'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you can access the bolts holding the mirror on and disconnect the wiring harness as well..
