the hose didnt, blow-off,it was puking oil out. when i pulled over i took the air filter off, and i could see that the oil had blown out of the hose? probably 2 quarts or more-and the exhaaust is stock, other than slip on mufflers, that are plenty baffled.my plugs always looked good.my question was what would cause the oil to blow out the hose behind the air cleaner? also the bike had been checked out prior to my purchase-thanks for any sugg, Rob-

Your heads are vented by the two bolts going into the heads close to the carb. At times a small mist of oil goes with the air and gets into the filter area. There are kits that you can get to vent the heads to the bottom end stopping the problem.

--------

Your check valve ball might be sticking or have a small spec of dirt on it. If your breather was out of time, your bike wouldn't run right and you would get a lot of oil all the time.

--------

There is a ball in the oil pump that is held down with a spring and is suppose to keep oil from going into the bottom end when the bike is not running. When you start it the oil pump cant pump it out fast enough, so you get oil out the vent tube. The seat for the ball probably has crud on it and the ball is not seating.

-----------

Over filling will cause oil to blow out aircleaner bolts.Recheck if oil is over filled or getting leaked from its return line.

As for your back fire your bike sounds to be running VERY lean and needs to have a dfo or something like that installed or re tuned, A dfo is a fuel management system. think of your motor as a air pump you have a 1/4 in hole for it to take air in and a 1/4 hole to push it out, you make the exhaust a bigger hole you can get rid of more air but you can't pull in that much. in other words when you change the exhaust on a bike or car or any motor you need to allow it get get more gas. the more air and the less gas causes what is called a lean condition this makes the gas burn alot hotter and cause early wear on the motor due to the heat. the easy way to find out how your burning is pull a spark plug and look at what color it is. what your looking for is nice coffee cream color, dark tan. if your plug is black your running rich, if it is more on the white side your lean.
As for your oil line i'm really not sure what caused that. it could a number of things. if it is at the dealer they are better off letting you know why the line came off as they have the bike in front of them and can see the problem. it could be a simply as the clamp came loose.
There are a lot of good fuel management systems out there look into then and find something in your price range. Power Commander is what i would use tested and true to there word with great tech support.

I've seen the check valve in the oil pump go and cause the case to fill with oil, when that happens the motor needs to get rid of the extra oil and the breather is first place it goes, i'm sorry i miss understood you what you said. a oil rebuild kit is cheap. V-Twin.com has them. know if you want to rebuild the whole pump you'll need to remove the tranny. i have done a dozen pumps. look into it i might be wrong but i would check it out

Is backfire when decelerating a bad thing? : motorcycles

2003 harley davidson full dresser back fires or pops sound on the left side pipe when i let go the the gas handle at around 2000rpms it all started when i had new cams put in

Popping sound at the exhaust is usually due to a very lean setting which causes unburnt fuel to burn late in the exhaust pipe and happens when you are going at a high rpm with a closed throttle making it even leaner. My bike had the same problem and most Harleys are factory tuned lean which is very bad as the engine runs hot. After putting free flow Rhinehart pipes like i did, it became worst so i installed the Vance & Hines fuelpak and now my bike runs so silent and cooler. A great difference from before.

Had carberator rebuilt and bike seems to still rumble and backfire on decell

On my bike, if it pops on deceleration, if I slightly richen up the idle mixture screw it stops it.

Deceleration popping on a fuel injected bike

Hi Anonymous, popping, coughing, spitting, or backfiring through the carburator or induction module can be caused by air getting sucked in combustion chamber do bad intake seals leaking. Leaking exhaust gaskets can also be suspect. Remove air cleaner and backing plate, while engine is idling spray WD-40 or Brake Kleen around intake manifold to head area, if RPM's increase you have an intake leak and seals need to be replaced, also spark plugs will be burning whiter than normal. Good luck

I have a 2001 FLSTFI,the bike is popping thru the exhaust during deceleration and stutters and it will cough thru the air cleaner while I am at any speed and any gear.

Check for intake leaks and exhaust leaks, this is the most common problem on these bikes. If you have aftermarket pipes the "popping" will be more distinct. Put on some gloves and cover the exhaust outlets and listen for a hissing from the pipes and around the cylinders.
Good luck, i hope this helps.

. Would too much oil make the bike Deceleration

Only if the air filter has become oil fouled . More than likely this would keep the bike from running too. If you have too much oil be sure to do the sniff test (on the oil fill hole) just in case a carburetor float stuck and filled the engine with gas. This might also cause poor running. If you have oil in your gas be sure to change the oil , check the air filter, and always turn off the gas when you are not riding. If everything is normal , then you probably need to change the exhaust o-rings in the head and the exhaust seal from the head pipe to muffler. By sealing the exhaust system you should eliminate the popping and backfiring from deceleration.

Changed exhaust did not rejet pops when ideling

If you went to a less restrictive exhaust and didnt rejet and the bike is popping its running to lean. Need to rejet the carbs when you open up the exhaust.

Bike backfires and at an idle it shoots out a blue flame

Purchase a EFI controller. I suggest a Fi2000R. It is easy to hook up and fairly easy to set by the instructions.
