Question about 1995 Honda VT 1100 C Shadow Spirit

1 Answer

I have a 1995 Honda shadow 1100 classic. Receiently the blinkers stopped working. I noticed the last couple times the bike got wet, the turn signal would not blink the lights. When i hit the turn signals, they would just glow orange. Once dried out they worked just fine. Now the turn signal indicator doesnt come at all, and the back blinker lights dont work at all. If i hit the left turn signal, the right light stays lit, and the left one turns off, but nothing happens with the back lights. I was just wondering if you had any information on the topic, or if i could get an online wiring diagram for the electrical/turnsignal on the bike. Thanks for ur help

Hi, Ac_dunker50 before diagnosing any turn signal/running light/parking light issue make sure the bulb is good and the light fuse has continuity with a test light. If you have replaced you OEM lights with LED lights you are going to need a load equalizer. If no turn signals work the cause could be a faulty turn signal module or the connector going to it, look for corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets. Contact spray cleaner is great for removing corrosion. If your speedometer does not function properly it will have to be fixed first because your turn signal module gets the data from the speedometer for normal turn signal function. If your front turn signals don't work use a test light to check for power and ground at the bulb socket, then start backtracking the wiring through every wire connector to the turn signal switch/button and check for continuity, go all the way back to the fuse if necessary to find the cause of the malfunction. If your rear turn signals don't work check your rear fender wiring harness connector first for corroded, broken, loose pins/sockets, power, and a good ground, (the harness connector is usually located under the seat on the front of the rear fender) then keep tracing the wiring look for obvious harness damage caused by the rear tire. If you still can't find the malfunction backtrack from the rear fender wiring harness connector. If one side does not work you could have a faulty turn signal switch or module check for continuity. SOURCE: Rear right turn signal acts as a running light.

Make sure and replace the lamp with the exact same one as the working side. Sounds like their is a mismatch in the lamps of some sort.
If one of the filliments is burnt out this will happen. Just like in car blinkers. Or it will blink fast. Hope this helps.. Happy Holidays. Jay

you may want to trace your wires to that light and check to make sure that your ground wire for that side is clean and tight that may take care of your problem all together

SOURCE: 84 honda shadow 700 vt lights are unpredictable

There seems to be some short in the circuit of the high beam, you will have to follow the high beam wiring, best would be to get the color of the high beam wire frm the head light bulb socket and trace it along you will sure find somwhere the along it the short.
Check the light switch and the blinker switch too.
Hope this helps!

My turn signals won't blink or work

1) Blown bulbs sometimes cause this.

2) Check the fuse & blinker relay. Some bikes have different fuses for marker & blinking, even though they're in the same lamp.

3) It could be a wiring fault; these symptoms will happen when anything stops the rear signals from working. Try hooking them up to a battery, without the switch in the circuit, and through the chassis, then fix ground issues first. Work your back on the positive side until you get to the switch. It is definitely not the switch, because the switch is switching, so it's from the switch back to the lights somewhere. It's actually not that hard to trac, if you have a wiring diagram.

I want to add a warning beeper for blinkers left on and ignition left on to my Honda VT 1100 Shadow Sabre motorcycle. The blinker beeper needs to be loud as I wear hearing protection and am hearing...

Blinker on is easy just change the turn signal flasher with on that makes noise. Take it with you to the auto prts store and they'll fix you right up. Evwen play( love you tender) if you like. they can be gotten as loud as a backup alarm for a dozer. Except you might not want one that loud. key on is another matter as you need a relay that cars have that bikes don't as you don't have a door that you have to open too get off you'll just have to look at your bike after you get off and notice the light's are on and turn the key off. I remove the key on my bike as in Kentucky if you leave your key in a motorvehical your on the way to jail, and I don't like going to jail for that.

How do you reseal the front forks on a 97 honda shadow 1100 american classic?

The forks need to be dismantled to fit new seals, and it helps to have seal drivers and a couple of special tools to strip them down. If you want to save some dollars just take the fork legs into the bike shop, and ask them to change the seals and refill with oil. It should take them less than 1 hour if they know what they are doing.
