I assume that you're talking about the starter clutch or over running clutch inside the starter. I've always replaced them with OEM stock parts and I've had good luck with them. Of course, if you want to use another part, as long as you stick with a maker that is known for their quality parts, you should be Ok with that as well.

Good Luck
Steve

If you're replacing this part for the third or fourth time, it would pay to have someone check the timing on your bike. I don't work on the Twin Cam engines but I've got lots of experience on the Evo and earlier models. Since the Twin Cam gets it's timing pulses off the left flywheel, that may control the timing but I'm not sure. If the engine is "kicking back" when you try to start it, I'd have it checked out. Otherwise, the OEM unit is just fine. I'm still running the original starter and starter clutch on my '94 Wide Glide.

Hi Anonymous, and the usual suspects are:
1.Ignition/Light Key Switch not in IGNITION position.
2.Engine Stop switch in the OFF position.
3.Discharged battery, loose or corroded connections (solenoid chatters).
4. Bank Angle Sensor tripped and Ignition/Light Key Switch not cycled to Off and then back to Ignition
5. Starter control circuit, relay or solenoid faulty.
6. Electric starter shaft pinion gear not engaging or over-running clutch slipping.

After replacing starter clutch will not engage and sstay engaged long enough to start. Clutch cable gets very hot. Was running good until I had to replace the starter clutch

your engine is grounding through the clutch cable, causing the heat. This is not good. Check for proper engine ground to frame and battery.

2010 harley dyna wide glide. when I press the

Is the clutch cable adjusted correctly, you may need to adjust the cable so that the clutch is released more fully, there will be an adjuster on either end of the clutch cable - adjust it so that the cable is tighter - but there should be a little bit of play left in the clutch - if this does not cure the problem you could have some gearbox damage,
The bike is still under warranty so take it to a harley dealers and have them look at it.

Does any one know if progressive shocks off a 1997 dyna wide glide will fit a 2003 dyna wide glide.

They should fit, just measure the length of the shock from eyelet to eyelet. if you don't have the measurements of the other bike just call a local dealer to find out the standard length
