2001 1200C - no pwer when ignition switch is on. As soon as i connect a trickle charger all power comes on. Bike starts but no odometer, and speedo does not work. engine sounds like it is not firing correctly and when throttle is moved it sounds like it is going to die out. Lights are dim at idle. all connections were checked for tightness. next step is to check battery voltage....what to check after that?

I'd take the battery out and have it checked. Just because a battery checks 12 volts with a voltmeter doesn't mean it's good. Put a bit of a load on it and cells start shorting out. Take it to an automotive parts store. Usually they can load test the battery for you.

Good Luck

2012 Harley Road King won't start. Tried jumping the bike with a portable jumper. The bike started twice but as soon as the jumper was disconnected the bike died. On the third attempt some smoke came from...

Go to your battery find out where that smoke is coming from. It sounds like summer your wires melted together. That was cause everything the short out, make sure your battery is charged, take it out of the bike and charge it and make sure you got about 12.67 V coming out of it. When you tested smoke coming from anywhere as bad. You could have some wires melted together file your wire harness, make sure that's not so

What is causing 2005 flhrsi road king custom speedometer to malfunction.

Check first the FUSES, clean the terminals of the fuse and replace if already blown.
The intermitent location of the speedo means a trickle of voltage going into the system. The malfunction came when your charging the battery w/o removing the terminals.
Check and clean the harness connection.
Tell me if there is some more problem.

I have a 1995 Honda cbr 600 f3 it won't start won't try an start the battery is fine so are the fuses I'm getting nothing no lights not even the ones that show your in neutral. It's really...

ORDER A CLYMER MANUAL FOR YOUR BIKE!!! Everything is easier to inspect with the fairings and accessory covers removed. While you are waiting for the manual, trickle charge your battery. Make sure your charger is a maintainer as well. It charges your battery and keeps it conditioned. Keep in mind, even if it's a new battery, they are not impervious to fault. When you get your manual, two or three days later, the battery should have a full charge as indicated by a green light(normally) on the trickle charger. Now, key your ignition on and get your multimeter. Read for battery voltage on the down side of your ignition switch. Then measure and note the draw from your battery as you hit the start switch. Open your manual and start reading through components like your rectifier, coils, main power fuse (probably a 30A)on your fuse box. Remember, a bad ground within your electrical system will report a failure to allow passable current to the components that need the juice. Look for corrosion or gunk on the contacts of your electrical components. Good luck, let me know how it works out.

1981 Suzuki GS750 my horn, speedometer, tachometer and odometer all stopped working, i dont see a blown fuse and have no clue. Everything else is working fine electrically ??.. any help is apprecciated....

Arming yourself with a test lamp made from a 12volt bulb and some flex, Check on the ignition switch for power and chase it through up to your speedo. You will soon find the break.
Good luck.

I have no headlight or ignition in the ignition position on key switch on aux i only have speedo lights and odometer and tail lights

You didn't say what year or model your bike is but it seems you ignition switch is working correctly in the aux. postition. Now, in the ignition position, if you don't heve headlights nor ignition, the first place I'd look is the ignition switch itself.

Good Luck

I just put my battery in the bike. I went to start it up, it powered up but when I went to start it up it clicked off.

The battery has to be fully charged on a trickle charger before putting it into the bike. The charging system in a bike is small compared to a car and does not keep the battery fully charged. Therefore, it is a good idea to put a trickle charger on it when it is idle.

Starting problems

I would start by checking your starter switch, ignition, the starter relay and then the kickstand saftey switch. There is a few things that happen when you start the bike. One, you depress the starter switch, the headlight shuts off, the starter relay closes and the bike starts. I'm not sure how or what creates this but I bet there is a relay somewhere along the line that cuts power to your headlight when you start the bike and its faulty and is causing both of the problems. It may stuck somewhere in the middle instead of open or closed. I would also suggest jumping your starter relay to see if it starts. If it doesnt, then it must in your ignition switch. Find your starter relay, there should be one red wire leading to it, another leading away. Very important... make sure your bike is in neutral.. the starter will fire not matter what. Take flat headed screw driver and connect the two post. It should fire right up. If it does, the lights should come on. It may be just enough to get that stuck relay unstuck.
