Question about 2003 Victory Vegas

1 Answer

Check engine light came on after I had it serviced. All that was done was installed a new battery and corrected the relay connection from the battery --> relay --> starter. She has run great since I purchased her and still does only now the check engine light which was never on before remains lit and the battery / relay work was the only thing done to the bike at the service shop. The closet Victory dealer is 4 hours away so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Service engine soon light, and code P0410 Secondary air injection system malfunction.. what are the items to look for? what normally fixes the fault? Thanks

Water may have collected in the AIR pump or the vent solenoid and frozen or corroded the pump.

Replace the AIR pump and install a new inlet hose and solenoid tube assembly using the following procedure:
1. Prep vehicle.
2. Raise vehicle on hoist.
3. Remove shield covering AIR pump.
4. Remove hose and vacuum lines from pump and solenoid.
5. Remove AIR pump inlet hose. Do not re-use.
6. Disconnect electrical connectors from pump and solenoid.
7. Remove pump mounting bolts and pump.
8. Transfer isolators from the old pump to the new pump.
9. Install new AIR pump and bolts to vehicle. Tighten the bolts to 17 N.m (12.5 lb ft)
10. Route new hose assembly up between engine and fender. It should come up near the area between the battery and the coolant bottle.
11. Connect new inlet hose to pump inlet.
12. Connect old outlet hose to pump outlet.
13. Connect electrical connector to pump.
14. Connect electrical connector for solenoid to connector on the new hose assembly.
15. Connect the hose with the white nipple to the vacuum source hose.
16. Connect the remaining hose to the shut off valve.
17. Install shield covering AIR pump.
18. Lower vehicle.
19. Remove coolant reservoir nut nearest the battery.
20. Route new hose assembly between the battery and the coolant reservoir with the solenoid on top.
21. Install the solenoid bracket onto the coolant reservoir stud and reinstall the nut back into the vehicle.
22. Use a wire tie to keep the new hose assembly away from the engine. On four cylinder engines, tie to the AIR outlet hose. On six cylinder engines, tie to an available hole in the radiator fan shroud.

Hope that helps......... //

How do I install a new battery? The manual doesn' t cover this.

Many garden tractors have the battery located under the seat. Move the tractor to an area you can work easily in and shut off the ignition.

1 Access the battery / compartment.
2 Identify the (-) Negative and (+) terminals on the battery.
3 Note orientation of the battery (-) or (+) as it is installed in the tractor.
4 Place a piece of tape on the (-) battery cable's insulation and another near the (-) battery terminal.
5 Photograph the battery with cell phone, etc.
6 Remove any clamps or brackets if they will be in the way of removing cables.
7 Remove the (-) cable from the battery terminal first by loosening the bolt or screw with required wrench, battery pliers, screwdriver, etc. by lifting it up / sliding out of the terminal.
8 Remove the (+) cable from the battery terminal last by loosening the bolt or screw with required wrench, battery pliers, screwdriver, etc. by lifting it up / sliding out of the terminal.
9 Remove any clamps or brackets if not already done previously.
10 Lift the battery out of the compartment straight up without tilting to prevent spilling acid from the battery.
11 If acid is not already in new battery: place new battery on several layers thick of newspaper and
a add battery acid to new battery as per instructions included with the battery.
b Place caps on battery when filled.
12 Identify the (-) Negative and (+) terminals on the new battery.
13 Place a piece of tape near the new battery's (-) terminal.
Place battery into compartment so that it is in the same relative orientation as step #3 above. This will ensure both cables will reach the correct terminal on the battery.
13 Check installed battery to photo to be sure it is oriented correctly.
14 Install any clamps or brackets if they will not be in the way of installing cables.
15 Connect the (+) cable [no tape] to the (+) battery terminal [no tape].
16 Double check that the (+) connection is correct and tight.
17 Connect the (-) cable [with tape] to the (-) battery terminal [with tape].
18 Double check that the (+) connection is correct and tight.
19 Install any clamps or brackets if not previously done in step #14 above.
20 Dispose of newspaper, acid container, etc in trash.
21 Recycle old battery where new battery was purchased / collect deposit.

Ignition issue

Have a load test done on the battery to check for a failing cell. Check battery terminals are shiny clean and tight. Check for power from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid as this is the circuit you by pass when you short out the starter terminals.

Battery light on 1999 Ford Explorer

first, check battery voltage with engine off. It should be @ 12 1/2 volts.
With engine running, it should be @ 14 volts.
If yes, then check for a bad connection at alternator. Look closely at the terminals for corrosion.
There should be BK/DG wire supplying charging amperage to the battery. It does not go through a relay.
Check the mega fuse (175 amp) in the battery junction box (ride side or engine compartment I think). check connection 122 & 197 in same area. good luck
