You are correct, the mixture needs altering.

Start up with the choke in position were it will start, run a few minutes to warm up engine.

Turn mixture screw all the way in, don't screw hard in (Gentle) could damage screw seating, listen to engine when it starts to faulter gradually turn screw out, listening to the engine sound till she is running smooth on tickover. Reve up quick shut down on throttle, and if setup correctly should return to tick over without stopping. Lucky person.

The problem with leaving bikees sitting for extended periods is that the gas deteriorates and evaporates from the carb, leaving varnish like deposits that block up the small passages in the pilot passages that supply fuel at idle speeds.
If the condition is bad enough where the pilot screw is entirely blocked, you'll most likely need to disassemble it to clean out the deposits, because without any fuel flowing through at all, the chemicals like Seafoam won't do much.
Remove the pilot screw and using a strand of wire from something like a bread tie or thin wire from a multistranded wire, carefully poke out the deposits until clear. Check the float needle and clean as needed, and reassemble. The mixture settings shouldn't require readjustment once free flow is restored.

Bought a McCulloch M3414 started okay yesterday wont start today maybe I flooded it, pulled cord so many times

1. set on/off switch to on, 2.prime it first, push the bubble about 6x 3. pull the choke all the way out, 4.pull trigger and string simultaneously 5. push in choke halfway try again, pull choke back out and etc. should start after repeating steps 4 and 5 3x or 4x when it does start, pump the gas at half choke then let it idle untill it stops push in choke all the way and it should start. don't forget to check the safety bar in front of the handle usually works with most gas operated tools

My honda vtx 1300 will not run with choke all the way in but will run with the choke half way in. what is the problem?

If your bike will only run with the choke half way out it's starving for feul. You have a clogged jet. By choking the bike you cut off the air and allow more feul to run through the carb.

How to start the generator

Hi Joe, I had asked for a little clarification and have not received any information. I will answer this question based on the generator is in good working order and it is a recoil start. Open the petcock, (this is the fuel valve) and give it about a minute to fill the fuel bowl on the carburetor. If your generator has an engine an on/off kill switch, set to on. If the generator has an auto idle switch set it to off. If the engine has a throttle lever located under the carburetor, push it all the way down (full throttle). Pull the choke knob out completely, there is a detent on the choke for half choke, pull it past this for full choke. pull the recoil starter rapidly. As soon as the engine starts running push the choke knob to half choke, this will allow the engine to run smooth while it's warming up. Depending on the climate that you are in, warm up time will vary. After a minute or two in cold climates start pushing the choke knob in, if it starts to run poorly pull it back out too the half position and let it warm up some more. When you can posh the choke in without the engine faltering it is ready to go. In warmer climates you might be able to start the engine without the choke or in the halfway position. Robin Subaru makes some of the finest small engines available. I would choose a Robin over a Honda every time. I hope this gets your generator going, and once again this is based on the generator being in good working order. Good luck, Michael Burke.

Yamaha TW 200 starts but won't run.

If the bike has sat for a long period of time without being run - the gas that is sitting in the carb(s) will shellac.. Then the carb(s) would need to be cleaned and "rebuilt"..
