Question about Moto Guzzi Nevada 750 Club Motorcycles

1 Answer

1996 Nevada 750--no start, backfires, owner's manual supplement diagram on Marelli "Digiplex"ignition control module shows a wire to ground via "advance adjustment wires"(sic). I am a mechanic, with a strobe timing light, and a multimeter; would like to know the correct m.o.--I am happy to purchase a manual so that I can maintain this nice machine correctly. I have tested all connections, also coil continuity/resistance,also pickup air gap--spark at plugs is strong and regular, but erratic re. timing. Ideas? many thanks in advance( pun), Ken

Many thanks, O Guru! Looks like I'll be repairing the module if I can't find a suitable repairer, as a replacement OEM module is in the order of $1500AUD, or a similar one (Hektik) about $1600 AUD.

    Mucho dinero!

Failing this, I can probably retro-fit a Kettering (CB points) system from an earlier model as a last resort.

I appreciate your help, thanks again

The info is very helpful, thank you--looks like a challenge but I'm better informed than I was before; like most of my projects, it will probably take some time; progress TBA!

Marelli "Digiplex" ignition systems are also used in Lancia Thema 16 valvers and Fiat Croma 1600. They are notorious for weak manufacturing: the board inside them ages badly so the copper tracks start peeling and the solderings become brittle and break. The module will have to be opened and all the solderings redone and enhanced to stiffen the tracks.
In your case it appears that the timing signal is iffy, you will need to also check the wires themselves, they might have started to corrode and the contact between them would have started to fail.
Here you can find the diagram of the system

I think yours has an ignition module which can be checked at parts store. Could also be bad coil. If you must have wiring diagram, get shop manual.

Message on 96 Caddilac Deville Transmission Control Module

Please read the owners manual on this first then read on here.
Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Legend of Abbreviations. ABS Antilock brake system.TCS Traction control system, TCM Transmission control module, SRS Supplemental restraint system, BCM Body control module
