Question about 2005 Gilera 50 SMT

1 Answer

IT starts and ticks over first time but when you rev it up it seems to be holding back. When you ride it it struggles to get going properly and takes ages before it fires up and then you have to start all over again in the next gear. Just bought it and it is fitted with a power exhaust and the guy said it had a power band, but that is not a power band at work and he only had it 2 weeks before he sold it on. Cheers ****

Hey..did you get the stock exhaust with the bike...if not..go back and try to get it,,Sounds like the carb may be in need of a professional cleaning.. and with the aftermarket exhaust.. it might be time for some jetting...(A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL ONLY) can do this.. NOW - A "power band" is simply the RPM range that the engine makes the most power... it is nothing special.. Road race bikes have a high PRM "power band" and a trials bike has a low RPM"power band"..AND some bikes do not have a power band because they are ridden by the "masses" and they can't handle "power" of any kind..

SOURCE: Gilera Runner very difficult to start cold, then cuts out when hot

to check the electric choke..take it/off out of carb & unplug it. then get 2 short lenghts of wires, strip both ends...shove one end into the choke plug teminals(one in each hole) .then put one of the striped ends of thewires on a charged battery(one on the positve & one on the negitvie terminals) .keep them on for about 5 mins & you should see the choke head extend (you could always mesure it befor you put to battery & check in 5mis to see if extened!!) this will tell you if its working!!...if its not working this will explane why you have trouble starting from cold!! also sounds like the main jet is blocked...this is found by taking of the float bowl (as you may know!)it will prob be the small hole up the middle of the jet that is made up with muck!!...try sticking a strand of a wire brush up/threw it...also it sounds like the exhaust is leaking round the maifold..will have to take exhaust of & check if it need a new gasket..or resealing!!(does the exhaust blow?. this is good way to tell if it is leaking(put a rag/palm of hand over end of exhaust & you should beable to hear it blowing. ...hope this helps....Howard

SOURCE: my scooter does not seem to fire a replaced the

It could be a blocked carb but it sounds more like a spark problem. I am assuming that you have the right gap on the plug. If you do it could be either the exciter on the magneto or the cdi unit. The bang is nothing more that unburned fuel exploding from a spark so you know that you have fuel and spark. The trick is now to get them doing what they have to at the right time. I would start with the cdi unit. They are quite expensive so take yours out and ask the dealer to try it out on another scooter before you buy one. They are a small bkack rectangular box with a connector with usually 4 wires going into it and you will find it either under the seat or in the battery box. If it is the exciter, let the dealer sort it out as it is a fiddly job.

Starts, idle is good, but lose's power and then die's

The reason seems to be vacuum leak. Try replacing the vacuum hose. Vacuum in engine is used to pump the fuel in engine cylinder and to keep the ride in proper working condition. Vacuum leak can be one of the symptoms responsible for vacuum leak.

My 2007 vw chico 1.4 lost power after cam belt change

you have a wrong timing fit. might out a tooth on camshaft and that's the reason you have noisy revs. be careful do not force it because you will bend valves. take it back to the garage for second check. Happens sometime.

Was it sitting around all winter? Try cleaning the carbs- usually means replacing o-rings and gaskets, possible even jets if really clogged.

'02 Yamaha XJR1300 Rattle/vibrating noise from bottom of engine

how do you adjust the headlight beam on a xjr1300 naked 2002 bike, is it as simple as undoing the 2 bracket bolts at the sides of the lights and re-setting the lights to a new level ??
currently it seems to be set for riding with a pillion passanger or heavy load at the rear as the lights are set low, no one flashes me even if i ride at night with full beam on !

thanks xjr cambs

2001 vw golf gt tdi is struggling to start when cold and sometimes hot..when started it struggles 2 stay ticking over at 900 revs...what can i do??please help

golfs coldstart system works when you open door/shut door/put key in hole and turn on (in that order)if you delay puting belt on for longer than say 30 secs the coils go cold, hence poor starting.if engine labours after cold start try using (really)one gallon of petrol in tank to clean injectors.
british army put petrol (30%)in diesel tanks of challenger tanks in arctic
to stop fuel freezing.....most parts replacement jockeys in garages will say if you put diesel in tank it will have to flushed out.lot of bollocks.
trust me.have put petrol in by mistake loads of times, only get hot start
problems if you put in too much.

Speedo will cut out when driving

Sounds like your "speed sensor" is failing. When it fails it will cause irregular shift patterns and engine idle speeds.
