Question about 2003 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI Electra Glide Ultra Classic

1 Answer

I have a 05 Ultra classic where once the cruise control is set it deactivates when I hit any kind of bump in the road. After much tinkering I have found that any and I mean any slight movement in the front break lever this will kick the cruise control off. I can hold the break lever all the way forward against its stop and the cruise control remains on. How do I fix the brake lever issue?

Sounds like the front brake assy. on the handle bar was removed without the card board insert installed between the front break lever and the little piston which can damage it and cause the front brake switch not to work right as the piston in the handle assy. won,t slide back and forth when the lever is moved in and out

Intermittent Cruise Control Issue - cuts out when small bump in road is hit and may or may not re-engage after that.

Check the wire connector that plugs into the cruise control under the hood. Sounds like a loose connection. Remove the and reinsert the wire connector several times to make a better connection. Stepping on the brake pedal disengages the cruise control by a switch on the brake pedal, not the computer.

Transmission surge at cruise

check the rpm and road speed when this happens . The cruise control will increase to keep RPM constant but as the road speed drops the auto may be shifting down and as the rpm increase it shifts back before the rpm adjusts. You can override a cruise control in this situation by simply pressing down on the accelerator to maintain the power setting and road speed and when the situation is passed and you take your foot of the accelerator the cruise control will return the system to the set position without you needing to do anything

Hi Cckids, diagnosing cruise control issues is very complex and requires specific drop down menu diagnostics that are extremely time sensative and precise. Cannot set the cruise. It will turn on, but will not set.

Check to make sure the cable that connects to the throttle body for the cruise control is connected.

How do you set the cruise control on my 2008 Road King Classic, FLHRCI. I bought the bike, no manual... Thank-you

Luckily, I have a 2008 Road King Classic (FLHRC) WITH a manual!

On the left handlebar switch housing there is a lever below the left turn signal button.
It should be flipped to the right for the cruise control to be on, left is off.

On the right switch housing, is a similar lever, below the right turn signal button.

When you're above the minimum speed (I do not know what this is, but 30 MPH is not fast enough for it to engage), push the lever to the right (towards the grip end). This will "SET" the speed.
If you hit the brakes, or accelerate above a certain rate, the cruise will kick off.
To get back to the set speed, when you're above the minimum speed, flip lever to the left to resume.

When the speed is set and engaged, to increase the set speed, flip right lever to the right, to slow, flip to the left.
