I have a 2003 goldwing motorcycle GL1800. I have the blue lights on the two dim lights and up till now they both work on dim, the two bright lights work as well. The problem is that the left side dim light quit working. When I cross the wires from the right side the left will work. Is it on a separate relay? Can I fix the problem by connecting the right and left wires together? Remember this is a goldwing not a car and is very different to work on and to get to the different parts. The headlights just don?t pot out by removing a few screws. Thanks.

2003 goldwing low beams. I have crossed the wires and the light works. The weardest thing is that sometimes it is on, then while just sitting there the left side goes out again. I unhook the battery and rehook it and it now works again. unhooking the battery and rehooking the battery seema to always work. The wires from these lights appear to go up into the instrument panel.

One side will work then turn off the switch and another side comes on only. Let me tell you those connectors can give one heck of a shock! I called around and they said that those Hi def lights will do that , I guess they don't have enough power on a goldwing. But that doesn't make sense. It ran fine a month before. Can't see where the power comes from. These lights are after market and have two wires fron each light.

I really dont think I have the HIDs cause I can,t find any module box, just connectors that seem to come with them. The lights seem to be blue halogon bulbs and not the Hid kind of bulbs I,ve seen. I have an appointment for the dealer to try to fix it latter this week. Until then I,m going to try to work on it, any more suggestions?

Hi. yes I do have the HIG lights and dismantled the bike and found the balasts under the windshield. What a pain in the ****, I'm going back to stock or the kit that ups the wattage bulb with a relay that pulls off the battery. Have you heard of them, sold by wingstuff.com? Thanks for your help.

No, no separate relay: they are powered by the same relay with the same switch. Simple test: cross the wires to the bulbs - left to right and the other way around. If its the same then the defect is in the bulb and its connector. If the right is the one that now fails the problem is in the wiring - the power wire for the low beam is broken somewhere along its path.
In that case the cheapest and easiest solution is to just jump the low beam wire from the right to the left bulb. Later, when you will have the time, you will need to remove the front cowling, expose the wiring and follow the power wire until you find the fault.
If you need a wiring schematic you can find it in this repair manual

Then the defect is in the connectors - the one for the left wire is loose or corroded . Clean and crimp it at both ends. Then check the ground wiring from inside the left lighting unit, it might be loose.

That is a totally different situation - you no longer have the original incandescent halogen 12 volts bulbs, you now have an HID lamp system in which every single ark lamp is powered with 500 volts by its own transformer/converter. In that case then, most likely, the converter for the left bulb is failing and it must be replaced - you cannot repair it. If you cannot obtain just one converter then you will have to replace the entire system.

Measure the voltage on the bulb connector, it will tell you exactly what kind of bulb you have.

Yes, i heard of them - very basic kit, nothing can go wrong with it electrically. You can install and use it without a problem. And please accept my answer.

Hi,

The left is the lowbeam, the right is the high beam.As the high beam and low beam headlights share a common fuse, both lights would be malfunctioning if there were a broken fuse. However the most common problems afflicting headlights are loose electrical connectors, burnt-out bulbs or broken fuses. If only the low beam headlight of your Gold wing is malfunctioning, then the problem is either a faulty connection or a faulty bulb.

First uninstall the two screws from the trim on the headlight and remove the trim. Uninstall the turn signal screw and remove the turn signal assembly from the motorcycle. Uninstall the two screws below the headlight. Use a socket wrench to remove the four bolts securing the headlight to the motorcycle. Pull the headlight assembly out and lightly tug on the electrical connector at the rear of the assembly. If it comes out or is loose, securely tighten the connector to the assembly.

Pull the lower bulb from the assembly straight out. Use a clean cloth to install the replacement bulb. Make sure to only use a 55 W bulb. Place the assembly back into the vehicle and reinstall the four bolts and two screws to secure the headlight.

Reattach the turn signal assembly and attach the turn signal screw. Reinstall the trim and the two screws securing the trim.

Mazda cx7. both high beams work and one low beam works. how can i tell if its a headlight or some other problem

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. These new lights have two types lin one bulb, one for the low beam and one for the high beam. Find the bulb that isn't lighting for the low beam and replace it with a new bulb. If it doesn't work, you need to check the wiring to that specific light. Since it is only one, the new bulb should work.

Ford 2003 Focus. Low beam headlights not working. Hi beam do. Can get low beam to come on if flip between hi and low but don't stay on.

That sounds like a problem with the high beam switch in the low beam position. The contact is bad or the detent retainer isn't keeping the contact engaged.

How do you change the headlight bulbs on a 2007 honda goldwing?

On the older Goldwing you need to take the chrome panel off the front that is just below the windshield to be able to reach in and pull the socket and bulb. I have worked on many GoldWings bout havent got into any newer one. Also if toy get the haynes manuel for repair you won't regret it. Its a big help.

They are the same. It is one bulb with two separate elements high and low. You have to replace the bulb. kind of hard to explain how to do it though.
