Rattlinhg noise underneath my 2013 Chrysler 200 convertible when backing up or going forward slowly

Have the exhaust system checked, that would be the most common source of a rattle.

Cannot start YTH 170. Turning starter key gives rattle from engine but no apparent spark. Belt plug OK.

Unless you damaged engine this may just be an electrical problem. a starter bendix will "rattle" if there isnt enough power to turn the starter. make sure the battery is charged, tighten battery cables and any larger red wire connections AFTER you temporarily disconect the red or positive battery cable

Sometimes when i start my toyota sportivo i get a rattling sound (is this the starter motor not engaging correctly)

If it rattles after it starts, it may be the timing chain tensioner. You will need to get that fixed before the chain busts the housing. It may cause water to get into the oil. You will know it when the oil turns milky. This will cause major damage if ran like this. BUT, if it does it when it is trying to start, then yes, it is either the starter or the flywheel.

What causes a rattle noise from the starter after u crank the motor on a vz 800 suzuki

Hi Dalereaser, I just sold my brand new listening ears to your local dealers chief technician so he could take your bike for a test ride and give you his professional opinion and estimate about your noise and repair cost. Good luck and have a nice day.

On pulling the starter cord, there is a rattling noise as if a nut has come loose. The motor does not kick over.

When you pull the starter cord, three things are happening inside;
The cord is spinning the spool that it is wound on, the spool has a gear or molded teeth which engage the motor through spring-loaded levers, and a coil spring returns the spool to it's original position...hence the name "recoil" starter.

The first possibility is that the gear has come loose (if a mounted gear) or broken (if molded to the spool), and the rattling is the loose part(s) flopping around instead of engaging the motor.

The second possibility is that the lever springs are a bit dirty/rusty or bent and stuck out of position, and the gear/teeth of the spool are just banging across them instead of engaging.

Start by removing the plastic cover(s) to gain access to the starter rope's origins, ie; the spool and the starter levers.
The recoil spool with sping are likely attatched to the cover as a unit, so you don't have to go any deeper into the recoil.

Check the drive gear/teeth for a solid mount and teeth damage (they are saw-tooth shaped), then check the 2 small levers mounted to the crank for free swing and solid springs...a drop of oil or WD40 at their mounts won't hurt, just wipe the excess and while you're there, clean the magneto face and the magnets on the crank with a little WD40 on a rag.
* Don't despair if they look fine...it's entirely possible that they were stuck out of position until you pulled the recoil, and a decent cleaning will keep it from happening again.

Car unable to startup

either the starter motor is loose or the teeth are stripped from the starter motor which means it cant connect to the flywheel to turn the engine
