Yes, There is a coolant temp switch which kicks the fan on at a certain temp. It's usally right in the block. If you buy a new one, look at it and find the part on the bike that looks exactally like it. I am not sure exalctlly where it is on that bike.

Engine cooling fan only works when ac or defrost is on

if engine at long stand still, the engine temperature will rise about 190 degrees the cooling fan suppose to automaticaly turn on when coolant temperature sensor get hot it cause its resistance decrease causing pcm to send power to coolant fan relays and cooling fans, when you turn on AC the cooling fans suppose to turn on to cool down AC CONDENSOR, IF NOT AC WONT WORK COOLING FAN COOLS DOWN REFRIGERANT SO IT CAN RECYCLE THROUGH THE SYSTEM AGAIN.your cooling is suppose to turn on when engine at a sit still if vechicle not moving as coolant temperature rises at a set point the cooling fans will turn on cool down engine.cooling fans dont turn on when you first cold stsrt vechicle unless you have AC SWITCH ON.if cooling fans dont turn on when vechicle at a long stand still or moving along slow traffic.if coolant temperature sensor been replaced and fuses and relays okay have dealership check see if pcm driver circuit working faulty pcm will cause cooling fans not to turn on.

Cooling fan does not come on

This is controlled by a cooling fan sensor/temperature sensor, as well as fuses, and a relay. These will have to be checked.

Make sure your coolant level is full, the coolant temperature switch won't work if the level is too low. If coolant is low, you need to find out where it went to by pressure testing the cooling system.

If it's not low and the fuses are good, the relay is working:

The fan should be tested, bypassing any sensors to make sure it is functioning properly.

The sensors can be tested to be sure they are working properly at the correct temperature with a voltmeter/ohm meter.

Reverse troubleshooting the wiring and ignition is the next step if you haven't found the problem.

Good luck !

2005 dodge caravan cooling fan works fine with A/C but wont work automatically to cool the engine

? the cooling fan inside the vehicle isnt the same fan that cools the radiator. The AC runs off a compressor pump and the blower motor(fan) distributes it through the vehicle, the blower motor also distributes the heat from the heater core when its set on that. If your motor is overheating and the cooling fan isnt starting the fan itself may be defective or the thermostat that controls it.

Cooling fan for my lumina will not kick on, causing my car to over heat.

CHECK COOLANT FAN FUSE AND RELAY.IF ALL IS GOOD YOUR COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY. AT CERTAIN TEMPERATURE LIKE 190 TO 200 DEGRESS COOLANT FAN WILL TURN ON.BUT FIRST CHECK COOLANT FAN.HOT WIRE IT.IF FAN DONT RUN REPLACE COOLING FAN. IF FAN DOES RUN YOU HAVE BROKEN OR DAMAGE WIRE IN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR.FAULTY PCM.

The electric fan is does not seem to be engaging at low speed causing the engine to overheat when the A/C is on... the engine fan starts and stop irregularly when waiting for the engine to cool down... is...

Hi!!

There should be a fuse/relay box in the engine compartment close to the battery, If your vehicle is equiped with two fans, there should be two relays. There has to be a cooling fan(if equiped with two) that comes in as soon as you turn the A/C on, is your vehicle has one fan, it has two speeds, when the A/C is turned on, the Hi speed kicks in. Sensors in this circuit that are relevant to this function are, Coolant Temp. Sensor, Engine Temp. Sensor.

Check fuses/relays for the cooling fan(s), if OK, check sensors.

Cooling fan don't run on 2003 pontiac grand am

Check the cooling fan fuse, and relay,if they seem to be fine, make sure the fan is good, and change the coolant sensor, and see that there is enough coolant in the system and the thermostat has been changed, and there is no air in the coolant system, bleed it out.

Is there a cooling fan fuse?

Everything in car is fused. The fans are controlled by a thermal sensor. You will need a wiring diagram to test for a faulty sensor.

Coolig fans dont run

the cooling fans are run by a relay it's located in the junction box. check this. there is also a thermoatic sensor located near the fans next to radiator. the fans should free spin when the engine is off this is a good indiacator that it's not the fan themselves. if the relay checks out(run engine and switch the fan relay with the a/c clutch relay when the engine reaches 180 degrees you will feel the upper radiator hose get hot the fans will turn on a short time later iof they don't it's the temp sensor near the radiator if they do it's a bad relay...please rate this thanks
