Question about Harley Davidson FLTR Road Glide Motorcycles

2 Answers

I have a 2009 SE Road Glide. I want to change the stock handle bars to a Dresser or a RoadKing style bar. They have about a 6-8" pullback toward the rider from stock. Do I need to extend the wires, hydraulic clutch and brake lines? Also Do I need to use the ignition switch alignment tool and the ignition switch connector remover tool to complete this job?

Yes, all the wires and hydraulic lines will have to be extended - actually you should use custom wires and lines, not just to extend the present ones. This is especially true on the brake lines.
Since you need to remove the dash to access the fittings of the handle bar, the use of the ignition key tools is mandatory - you must take the key hub out if you want to remove the dash.

1 & 1/2 inch pull back only is the limit on stock cables. Anything over that will need longer cables, hydralic and brake lines
For the igntion switch removal tool please look at the link below to bring up the provided website that specializes in this option you want'

What is the shape of the handle bars on the Schwinn High Timber Girl's bike?

These are certainly not racing style bars; but the modern, hybrid riser handlebar.

They will not sweep back toward the rider as much as a beach cruiser handlebar; but could be adjusted rearward to come closer to the rider. They definitely allow for a more upright riding position than many other handlebars though.10_19_2012_7_26_19_pm.jpg

I would be inspecting the kill switch. Only thing on the bar that could be it other than the start button.

Replace handle bars on a 2006 HarleyDavidson RoadKing

I added a 2 inch riser to my dyna and didnt have to replace any cables, so - to answer your question, not always. There is plenty of wiggle room, however, if there is gonna be more difference that about 2 inches, replacement will be required. ADJUSTMENT WILL DEFINITELY be needed. And no, its not difficult, when u have the bars off, its nearly 1/2 done anyway

Any good suggestions for Super Glide Sport bars?

I put pullback Deuce bars, 56330-00, along with pullback risers on my Wide Glide and like the fit. Total pullback is about 11.5". You can also get chrome FXST bars this year, 56154-04, which are close to the Deuce bars. I also put in urethane bushings which do add a little vibration, not bad but I can feel the difference. Deuce: 31" wide, 5" rise, 9" pullback. FXST: 30" wide, 5.75" rise, 9.25" pullback. Reply With Quote

Replace handle bars

Mine had wiring inside the bars as well. Basically I removed the controls from the bars, and removed the 2 bolts holding the handle bars on. I removed the RIGHT side gas tank after draining it. I intended on cutting the wires to the connectors, pulling the wires out of the old handle bars, and pulling them back through the new bars. Note: Mark the black wires very carefully, since there were 5 black wires in the two connectors and they are all unique wires. The colored wires were easy, just match them back up. Several tricks I found on line. Use a string and a bolt to fish a pull line down through the new bars then pull the wire bundle through. This worked great on both left and right wire bundles. I then bolted the new handle bars in place and remounted the controls. I then replaced the shrink tubing up the bundles that hid the actual wires as they came out of the handle bars down to where I cut the connector wires, behind the right side tank. Next I stripped and tinned all the wires I cut (twist and get a little solder to stick on the wires) and stuck little pieces of shrink tubing up or down the wire so after I resoldered the wire I could shrink the insulation back over the splice. I picked up the shrink tubing and some extra wire a home depot. I had a soldering iron, and heat gun so away I went connecting the dots again. Litte tedious but hey. It saved me somewhere between $500 -$700 bucks which is what the harley shop quoted before I started. I tested each function, then reinstalled the gas tank and tightened up all the stuff. Below is the pin out in case you do loose a wire marker, like I did. Good Luck.
