The oil drain for the engine oil is a hose that comes off the lower backside of the oil tank on the right side of the bike. It goes down behind the transmission and comes out on the frame down low on the swingarm about where the rear end of the shocks connect. It has a plug in the end of the hose. On some of the later models, this hose connects to a crossmember on the frame with the plug directly on the underside of the hose where it connects. The transmission oil drain is a small pipe plug, 1/8" pipe plug, on the end of the transmission just below the chrome release mechanism housing behind the exhaust system. It takes a Torx key to remove the plug. The transmission holds 20-24 ounces of H-D Syn3 20W50 synthetic engine oil.

Good Luck

How to fix oil over filled?

You can remove the oil by the drain plug again (of course) but if you are worried about destroying your drain plug O-ring, then you can buy a fluid removal tool from an automotive store. In the future, do not use over three quarts of oil for a change. There is always gonna be excess oil inside that you will not drain. Add 2 1/2 quarts, let the engine idle, then turn off your engine and set the bike level to check where the fluid is on the stick. Dry the stick and lay it aside then add enough oil to bring it to the top and yer done and done.... LiquiVac Topsider Oil Changer Oil Extractors Northern Tool Equipment

It could be the drain plug, the primary gasket, or the seal on the shaft coming out of your transmission that the clutch hub bolts to.

I have had this problem with the transmission shaft seal before.

Just did an oil and filter change on my fxstdi put in 3.5 quarts as per manual oil reading high. Ran engine 1min at idle to fill the filter. oil reading about 1/2 quart over the fill mark?

Hi Randy, the oil system holds 31/2 qts. bone dry but you can never completely drain the system. Next time you do an oil and filter change start by only replacing 3 qts. of oil then run it and check dip stick and add a little if necessary. If you are substantially overfilled then drain excess to the correct full mark, overfilled oil tanks cause breather problems. Good luck

Front shocks are vary soft. drained and filled to spec

If the dampening action is still to soft for you, you'll have to drain the forks again and this time put a heavier weight oil in them. If you put 20 wt. oil in last time, try 30 wt. this time. Always use a good quality "fork oil" never just plain engine oil.

How do i drain the gear oil out of my 01 fxstd

there is a drain plug that sits just above the rear shocks underneath the bike.
you will need a shallow 5/8 socket on a short wobble extension with a 3/8 ratchet, and (Harley part number 11105 drain plug o ring and 99851-05 Harley "formula +" one quart)
the plug is located towards the front of the shocks and slightly over to the left or low side of the bike.
loosen drain plug just a little bit and get the socket out and use your fingers to pull it the rest of the way out.
also be sure to use your fingers to thread it back in so you do not cross thread the plug ( that is very easy to do)
replace the o ring and fill transmission filling it to the top line on the the dip stick wich is on the high side of the bike on the "trap door trans cover" where the clutch cable goes into.
you will need a 3/8 Allen wrench to take that out and be sure to just only snug the dip stick back in place so you don't damage the chrome or aluminum when taking ot out again

What is involved in changing oil in 2005 softail deuce

find the oil drain plug. Look at the bottom of the oil tank from the right side. You'll see a large hose going down behind the transmission and on down to the very bottom of the frame. It connects to a crossmember on the bottom of the frame below the transmission. There is a drain plug that screws in the crossmember from the bottom, Remove the plug to drain the tank.

Remove and replace the oil filter with the correct filter.

Add three quarts of oil to the oil tank after reinstalling the drain plug.

I'm changing the oil on my 04 Duece, removed the cap, changed the filter, removed the plug and only a small amount of oil came out? Still have oil in the tanks? Why is it not draining?

because its a dry sump. you have to drain the oil from the oil tank. Theres a hose under the tank. I dont know where the drain hose is on a duece, you'll have to look around

Where is oil drain plug 2005 salftail Deuce

On the earlier Softails, the oil drain was a hose on the right side of the engine way down low behind the chrome cover on the right side of the transmission. The hose is held to the frame under a clip on the frame. There is a plug in the end of the hose. Loosen the hose clamp and pull the plug out.
