Ducati 996 is spluttering andt he rev counter needle jumps only when i do longer rides?

If the bike runs fine until its warm then ecu should be ok. If you haven't serviced it for a while check the fuel filter, notorious for affecting injector pressure. Electrics: check battery and ignition coils (can show problems when hot) I have a cool ecu recommendation for the 996 ping me here and I can give you details if you want?

Engine conking out!

I had a very similar problem when I first got my XV250. The problem was it ran out of fuel. Fail. It only has a range of around 60 miles.

No fuel gettin to the spark plug

There should not be fuel on the spark plug anyway, if the plugs are firing the fuel would burn off them.

Regardless, if you suspect the fuel line is blocked simply remove the fuel line either from the petcock or carburator and blow in it to see if there is any blockage.

1) is there fuel in the tank?
2) is the fuel filter plugged?
3)is the petcock in the ON or RES position?

There should be a screen on top of the petcock that could get plugged up with debris from inside your gas tank. Drain the fuel from the tank and remove the petcock to clean the screen.

Hope this helps, pls vote for me.

My honda cbr 600 is struggling as if it keeps running out of petrol. whats happening?? Having a similar problem. I've had a 1996 CBR600F (50 000km) for about 14 trouble free months until recently. The...

It all seems to be leading to fuel starvation. Have you checked the tank breather is not blocked which can be a small hole in the petrol cap or a tube from under the tank. It could also be a blocked fuel filter. There should be two. One inside the fuel tank under the petcock, another before the fuel pump. Here is the workshop manual where you can find all info you will ever need for this bike.
Hop this has been useful, rate me if it has...?
Thanks and good luck.

1998 Aprilia RS250 Still Spluttering

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your described problem could be the battery but I am also inclined to suspect the voltage regulator. If the 'splutter' is when revving/higher RPMs, then the CDIs are cutting off possibly because of higher than normal voltage from the regulator and/or the battery is not loading the system(charging). Try charging the battery externally for at least a couple of hours, try and observe. You can also have the battery tested. If the battery checks good, accepts a charge and the bike will run normally after being charged, then the regulator must be considered.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
