most drive shafts have a ring on the shaft inside the shaft housing you will need some force to pop the ring out of the slot. or if you are removing the shaft itself there is a circlip in the universal joint that needs to be remove before the shaft comes out.

2007 toyota hilux 4x4. Bad whining and vibrations in front end while driving. Feels like front diff trying to lock in. Any ideas. Taken to few 4x4 mechanics they say never heard of it before!!!

check the bushes / bearings that are in the end of the diff housing for shaft wear. Check the cv joints for wear. check shafts for bent . check front wheel bearings and adjustment. Check the drive shaft from the transmission to the front diff as they are prone to u-joint failure and excessive wear in the slip joint.

I am buying a 97 Grand Cherokee from a relitive . She had a leaking seal on front differintial and ran it dry . It started making alot of noise ,so she parked it . Gears got chewed up and the teeth are...

No!!!!!! Even though you remove the drive line the axle shafts are not able to disconnect from the front wheels. This means that every time your wheels turn the axle shaft turns and the ring and pinion and spider gears are turning in the front housing. If you tried this more than likely if not already the bearings may spin in the housing and destroy the housing that holds the third member gears. It will be a very costly item to replace the housing and gears. Rent a tow dolly and place the front wheels in the carrier or use a flatbed tow truck. Either of these items will cost you less money than destroying the housing.

do you mean the drive shaft. if so you just need a good lever bar to prise the drive shaft out of the transmission.if you mean you want the drive shaft out of the front wheel hub then you may need a good pller to femove it as it can be very tight on the splines

Growling coming from front differential

There's not really a best way. If the axle half shafts bolt to the housing just drop it right out. If not you'll have to remove both half shafts from the wheel hub. Disconnect the drive shaft, and drop it out.
