Well it depends on which increase / decrease screw you are referring to! there are many of them on a bike but in short (with out knowing which one you referring to) it increases or decreases depending which way you turn it

H is the high speed adjustment ( screw in to lean the mixture and increase the revs, screw out to richen and decrease revs ) I is the idle screw, this will adjust the tick over speed of the engine, you can also have a srew marked L this is to adjust the low speed running by leaning or richening the fuel mixture

There will be three screws on the side of the carb, a L screw, this will adjust the fuel mixture from idle to half throttle, a H screw, this will adjust the mixture from half throttle to maximum throttle, and a I or T screw, this works on the throttle spindle and will increse the idle, not the mixture.

My craftsman chainsaw is pretty new, and it isn't starting properly. When it does start, it has a tendency to cut out during use. I adjusted the idle time, a few times, cleaned the air filter, and checked...


There will be three screws on the carb, the tick over screw, a L screw which ajust the mixture from idle to half throttle, ans a H screw which adjusts the fuel running speed, they are both fuel screws not air screws, start with a basic settinf of one and a half turns on each from closed, with the saw idling gently screw the L screw in, the revs will start to increse as the mixture weakens off, it will reach a point where it starts to die, at this point start unscrewing the L screw, the revs will increse again and then start to die because its too rich, now turn it in 10 minutes on a clock face, check that it revs cleanly,adjust the idle screw so as the chain does not rotate around the bar, the H screw controls the max rpm, this should be set with a rev counter, it should not exceed 12500rpm

I have a husqvarna 125b gas blower and it came missing its manual. Can you explain the high and low speed idle controls : which is which and what is used to adjust them Thanks


A special tool is required to adjust the carb screws, it should be set up from the factory for the best emmissions, so there should be no need for you to adjust them, however the L screw controls the low speed and acceleration up to half throttle, the H screw controls the max rpm, the the third screw just controls the idle speed, if you need the tool it is part no. 530035560, both screws are fuel, not air screws, screw the L screw in until you get the highest revs, then back it out 1/4 turn, screw the H screw in for the highest rpm, now back off 1/4 turn. if the machine does not pick up smooth increse the L screw bit at a time until it does, if the full revs sound too rich, screw the H screw in a very tiny bit.

Engine Starts will not idle unless you hold throttle on

this is because the amount of idealing throttle given may not be enough to hold the trottle. so please try to increse the throttle put adjusting screw.

High/low pressure spring settings


Generally, the pressure switch is not adjusted more than once or twice in the life of the compressor since the discharge pressure can be adjusted with pressure regulator. However the life of the compressor can be increased if lower pressure settings are maintained. Your pressure switch was set at the factory to a setting of about 120 - 150. If your cutout pressure is higher than 150 surely lower.
STEP 1: Turn Main Calibration Screw ( center screw with large spring) clockwise to increase pressure and turn counter-clockwise to decrease pressure.

STEP 2: Turn Differential Pressure Screw (small spring) clockwise to decrease cut-in pressure and
turn counter-clockwise to increase cut-in pressure.

Differential Pressure is defined as the difference between cut-out and cut-in pressure. There should be about 7 to 12 psi difference between cut-out and cut-in.
In our shop we rarely adjust more than a couple of turns because these switches are sensitive.
