Question about Yamaha FJ 1100 Motorcycles
You'll almost certainly find that the start button is badly corroded inside the switch assembly. Common fault. You'll notice when you have the bike parked with wheel turned to the right that water will pool in the bottom right of the switch assembly. Thats where the problem usually is. You could clean and resolder but fiddly job in the small space. A 2nd hand switch assembly is easier. If a newer model yamaha has the same plug too the loom i'd choose that. An R6 or R1 fetch assembly might be worth a look to see if the wiring plug is the same.
