You'll almost certainly find that the start button is badly corroded inside the switch assembly. Common fault. You'll notice when you have the bike parked with wheel turned to the right that water will pool in the bottom right of the switch assembly. Thats where the problem usually is. You could clean and resolder but fiddly job in the small space. A 2nd hand switch assembly is easier. If a newer model yamaha has the same plug too the loom i'd choose that. An R6 or R1 fetch assembly might be worth a look to see if the wiring plug is the same.

Don't replace solenoid, as obviously its working when you short its power. Same has happening on my FJ1200. It's the starter relay, that sends power to the solenoid when u hit the starter button. Only problem I'm having is finding the relay. I wonder if its in the airbox?

My bike will click but not turnover

If you are sure that the battery is fully charged, you might have an issue with the bike starter, make sure that all the connections at the starter are clean and not corroded.

So the reason i believe its the starter. Yesterday car wouldnt turnover. No click at all. Not even with jump. I hit the starter with a hammer a couple of times and it started. Though it started really slow...

You didn't say what make of car, but if it is Chev, Chrysler or similar that has the solenoid mounted on the starter you may have crossed the small wires on the solenoid switch.

Yamaha fj1200 wont turn over when hot

sounds like starter on its way out, next time it happens try crossing the starter relay nuts to put a current direct to starter. if same confirms its starter

check to see if any ignition fuses may have opened...check the starter solenoid(should be on firewall or near can take a large screwdriver and cross between the two posts on the solenoid to see if the starter turns..if not suspect the starter

Turn key on engine turnover slowly a few times and then it dies or makes a noise

Slow turning and the click click of the starter solenoid indicates either a low battery and/or a loos battery or ground connection. One also couldn't rule out a bad starter motor or solenoid.

Engine cuts out sporadically when driving and wont turnover when trying to start for a few minutes after. When starting if clicking noise comes from the rectifiers the bike will start if no click bike wont...

It sounds like the starter solenoid (you said rectifier clicking) may have burnt contacts. If you jump the solenoid with a piece of wire (touch the wire coming from the battery to the wire going to the starter ) and the starter works, it's a bad solenoid. If you hold the starter button and gently tap on the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works, you need to replace the starter brushes.

Turnover problem with toro 16-42z riding mower

A fully charged battery should read a minimum of 12.65, if it does not and connections and grounds are dirty then that's your problem. Start with a none fully charged battery. If you can bypass the solenoid and start it then the culprit is the solenoid. Good luck. donnyb60
