Check your oil level, if its overfull then you will get oil from there.
Its probably over full due to the float sticking in your carburetor and the fuel didn't go out the drain tube to the ground, instead the fuel went right down your intake, into combustion chamber, washed passed your rings and down inton the bottom end.
i've saw this happen several time to bikes that have been sitting or dirty carbs.
thats why your oil apperas thin because it has been diluted with fuel.
Smell it, it probaly has the scent of gas.

Make sure your carbs are clean, floats are working,
drain tubes are clean.
Change your oil and filter.
Turn the motor over a few time with the sparkplugs out in case there is any gas still in the chambers.
Clean or replace your sparkplugs and put them back in, and your good to go.
if you can't afford to fix it right now, then change your oil and filter, and just remember to shut you petcock off after each time you ride.

Note: A motor that has too much oil in it or the combustion chanber full of raw gas, it will be hard to turn over.

You'll be riding by noon tomorrow.
have a good one.

Brown sludge on oil cap and a bit in oil tank

that is water in the oil. could be old oil or gasket on head has gone check to see if there is a oily residue in the water container. if not do an oil change and check the torque on the head bolts and re tighten them. there is some stuff you can buy that repairs seal in the engine. something like stop leak. don't use thin oil. engine is old now and well warn in, 30/50 or 20/40 will do fine. but dont use 10 or 15. oil as it is to thin

5.0 L Oil pressure drops once engine warms up

Sounds like the main bearings are probably going.
Did you pull a couple of caps and look at the bearings when you had the pan off ?
It could be dirt in the passages but probably wear on the crankshaft.
As oil warms up it thins out and pressure is lost thru gaps in the bearings.

Oil pressure light at idle

when the light comes on at idle do you notice any engine noise different from the norm.if not then the oil pressure sensor(ops) is bad/weak and will need to be changed.if you hear abnormal noise with the light on then you will have to have teh oil pressure checked to see if its within specs.

Oil in the distributor cap causing random multiple misfires

I used to have a 1984 Bronco II which would wick oil up into the distributor, Ford eventually redesigned it and it was OK. A reason why you should never buy the first model year of anything. You need to buy a new distributor, or at least replace the O-ring seal which is supposed to keep all crankcase stuff inside the crankcase. The car is nearly 15 and I would go with a new distributor if you can get one, did not even think Mazda still had distributors in that year. If you have never pulled a distributor, have someone else do this as you will never get the spark timed right and you will end up giving the car away.

Where is the oil filler on a 8n tractor?

Hello,

The filter is a cartridge that sits inside of a canister. The Ford 8N is actually easier to change the filter because it is on the side of the engine and not tucked underneath the engine.
Locate the oil filter canister on the left side of the engine and remove the oil canister cap with an adjustable wrench. The oil filter canister is located directly behind the alternator. Locate the thin metal handle on the filter cartridge and lift the cartridge out of the filter canister.
Take care.

Engine runs fine oil checks out good yet oil light comes on?

You need to verify that oil pressure is ok.
They sell gauge at the parts store which has to be connected to the engine block via oil pressure sender hole.
For that , take out oil pressure sender(unscrew) and screw the gauge in to the hole (con thread).Run the engine and see if pressure is ok at idle and on higher RPM.Gauge suppose to have scale (norm. , low , high ).If oil pressure within specs , repl. oil pressure sender.
Or just replace oil pressure sender and see if that helps. They are not expensive ~ $30.00 , gauge probably the same money.

Alternator does not work. Oil leaking out of engine.

send me an email and I will send you a copy of the repair manual in .PDF format. chadschloss78@aol.com

the alternator is supposed to have some oil there. there is supposed to be a gasket on the stator cover. check on ebay for a used alternator or you can buy a new one from the dealer, or go check out the one from electrosport. be sure to check the magna forums for lots of great info.

When the engine is running on my volvo s40 if i take oil filler cap off oil splurts out with pressure.

A bit of splash is normal from the slight backpressure created when the pistons go down in any engine, but might also be due to clogged PCV valve. Put the cap back on and pull the dipstick and see if you hear constant hsssssss from there, or if the oil splashing abates from the Fill hole.

As a rule, you are not supposed to open that with the engine running ;-) Very messy on a nice Volvo

My money is on the PCV valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilator ($3.00-20.00)
