This is often cause by the idle speed being set a tad too high. On the left side of your bike near the air scoop is the idle adjustment screw, turn it counter clockwise a tick and it will cure the issue. 1000-1050 RPM is normal idle.

2011 Triumph Sprint GT high idle

Hey Graham..
Have you had it tuned up lately...if you had the valves adjusted, the intake valves are too tight...if no one has been adjusting your valves.. you might have an air leak..??
Does the engine rpm's "kinda float" around for a few seconds..idling high then settle back to normal..? .. YES. then its a classic symptoms of too tight intake valves.

Hi, I have a 1999 Chico/Citi Golf. The revs stay above 1000 and do not want to drop, I do not even have to pull the choke out. How do I get my revs to drop back to 1000? It use to Idle just below 1000,...

Check that the choke accelerated idle cam is not stuck. Check that the throttle cable has not dislodged and the outer casing is riding on the bracket. Check that the throttle linkages are free and the throttle returns to the idle adjustment stop. If all these are correct, adjust the idle adjustment to obtain the correct idle speed. 700 - 800 rpm is about the right speed.

Idle speed around 2000 rpm, 1st ride of the year , had this issue. I followed my Manual info and adjusted Cold and Hot adjustments. When restarted the idle was close to normal, but after a minute or 2...

Adjust the idle speed ONLY when the engine is at full operating temp. It should be idled at about 1000 RPM. It will probably be too low when cold and you may have to use the throttle control to keep the engine running until it gets completely warmed up. On the carburetor equipped engines, you cannot adjust the bike where it will idle cold and not be too high when it gets hot. The only way you can get this is with fuel injected models.

Good Luck

RPM run high and slow to drop down

There could be two problems i can think of here. First would be a computer problem. The computer might be telling the car to run at a high speed. A problem like this might be fixable from your local garage. A problem like this could be expensive. Second, as engines age, they natually tend to idle higher. This is a normal occurance. This is accompanied by a decrease of gas mileage. For me, i went from normal 26mpg down to around 22mpg. A problem like this can be fixed by using fuel additives aimed at high mileage cars. I have used fuel injector cleaners, and that has brought my car back to her glorydays of 1996. I hope this helps, if not let me know.

At idle speed my 2000 GL1500se races between 1000 rpm to 1500 rpm. I have tried to solve the problem by running several tanks of fuel with an additive, to no success. please help

Have you adjusted your idle speed adjustment knob in the gas cap housing. Idle speed should be 800 +/- 80 rpm If the idle speed cannot be adjusted there then you either have the throttle linkage binding or there is something preventing the venturi butterfly from closing. Something may have dropped into your carburetor and is wedged in there.

Idle adjustment 2002 chrysler sebring

Your idle is electronic you can't adjust this. Or at least you shouldn't. You have a sensor for speed and idle. In most cases depending on where you are the idle should drop to 700 rpm in most 2.4 if this helps you. When the car is cold it can range between 700 and 1000 rpm.

Engine high rev at stop and slowly goes to idle speed.

I've got Hyundai Lantra 1.6 year 2000. It's take time to start when it's hot. When I start my car it revs at about 2k-3k rpm. It also does it when I come to a stop. When I come to a stop it will stay at a higher rpm than that of idle speed. It drives ok when on freeway but uses more petrol. I have changed the water & petrol pump but no luck
