Question about 2004 Honda VTX 1300

1 Answer

2005 VTX 1300. Starts good when it's cold. After the bike warms up, it doesn't want to make it over the compression stroke. Can put it in gear and rock it past the compression stroke and it will start.

Have you checked the battery is charging , when the battery is cold it will regain some of the lost charge from when it was running, it is also a fact that a battery is more likely to fail when it is hot, rather than when its cold, try a battery pack on the bike when it fails to start also it would be a good idea to drop test the battery, may be something mechanical, but you need to check out the battery even a new battery can fail whet type is it?, paul

Bought a 2005 honda vtx 1300 noticed oil leaking from the head at the bottom of the fake fins it only has 2675 mile on it.

You need a gasket. Don't we be the bearer of bad news, but I think you have to drop the engine, one that bike to get to that gasket about 750 dollars you could try to stop leak. Just make sure it's good quality

When I start my VTX 1300 first thing in the am...I use a full choke 10-30 seconds then go to half to warm up but if it stalls ....I can't get it to restart ...nothing....nada....I drive my car to work....

what is the temp in the morning. it sounds to me that you need to clean or rebiuld the carbs. my advice is for you to rebuild and also put in a jet kit. this is going to give you a lot better control of your engine and also fix the mixture on your bike. it will also let you install aftermarket pipes. just cleaning and rebuilding will fix the problem though. dont forget to replace the fuel filter and air filter as well.

Bike started with choke on and then just stopped. Can't get started trying to start but won't fire.

You will need to pull the spark plugs out. Check them good on the gap , wet is a sign of needing
new ones, or weak spark, black all over , replace. If they are white that is good , if they are new
and wet, that is good . If they are new plugs check gap and clean up put them into plug wire and rest end of plug up against head and crank the motor look at your spark if it is good and blue, put
them back in and it will start . If it starts, try to learn a new way to start your bike. You can do this
by before cranking make sure your battery has a full charge, some times good charge will really
make it easy to start, when it is cold outside, always pull your choke all the way out, and start your bike . when it starts quickly move your choke in to about half way, and then let it warm up, before
taking off , when you think it has warmed up within a few min. push choke all the way in, and off
you will go. Good Luck

My vtx starts, it's cold natured, so I start with choke on. Starts Great, but then almost immediately quits and will not restart for 4 to 5 days. Have used starter fluid, starts, burns off fluid and quits...

it is and it is not. the pipes are too big. you need to have the heads looked at as well as you may have burnt valves going on. i know the big pipes look good. god do they look good. get the 1 1/3 in or the 2 in od pipes and put the big pipe sleeves on them. keep that big pipe look and always have bright shiny pipes. you do not have the proper back pressure in the exauhst. have your cylinder pressure chrck as well.

How many ozs of shaft drive gear oil for a 2005 honda vtx r motorcycle 1300

hi,not a hard job to do,take the bike for a ride to warm the oil up before you drain it,it makes it a lot easier draining the oil as cold diff oil is quite thick and the hondas only have a small drain hole, get the bke sitting level i normally use a small car jack under each side of the bike just to hold it level, undo the lower drain bolt(about a 10 or 12mm from memory)drain all the oil out into a clean container, inspect the oil for any shiny bits, you shouldnt see any foreign bits on a bike this age though,if you do get the bike looked at straight away, there are a lot of bits and pieces inside that diff and they are very expensive to repair, once you have drained all the oil out replace the drain plug making sure it is tight(but dont strip the thread by over tightening it)undo the filler bolt(large plug type bolt above the drain plug)and fill with a good gear oil(from memory honda use a 80/90w oil)fill the diff to the bottom of the filler plug just untill the oil starts to dribble out of the filler hole, this is the correct level and i think from memory they hold about 280-300mls,a 1 litre bottle does 3 changes..dont forget to put the filler plug back in and tighten it...hope this helps...cheers ian
