Question about 2003 Yamaha YZ 250 F

1 Answer

Hi, my name is Victor and the problem with my yamaha is the floater ive been told. As soon as I turn the gas valve to on, the gasoline starts pouring out of one of the hoses at the bottom of the bike. I am on a pretty low budget and would like to know a step by step process on resolving this problem myself if possible.

OK mate to test this theory at least (if is the float causing problem) just remove carbi and some where you can cleanly work on the carbi with the petrol tank side by side. remove bowl off carbi and then with carbi in upright position connect to fuel source and turn it on.
Yes you will get fuel everywhere but quickly with you finger gently lift the float up to point where fuel stops assuming the fuel does stop then you have confirmed this area is working or not.
if fuel does not stop then remove the float (there is only a free sliding pin holding it in place) then remove the seat valve and check for damage to the seat or the little spring mechanism but more likely it will have dirt or gummed fuel stopping the seal
another thing there is a small allen bolt at the bottom of the carbi with a hose directly below it if you want to remove fuel from the bowl you just undo this little bolt and fuel rushes out of tube until all fuel is gone - this is great when you want to remove the fuel but I have seen these become loose over time and obviously they can leak when you don't want them too (Could be worth checking)

Hi, Osierj and the usual suspects are:
1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system.
2. Loose float bowl screws.
3. Damaged float bowl o-ring.
4. improper fuel level in the float bowl.
5. Worn or dirty inlet valve or seat.
6. Damaged or leaking float assembly.
7. Particle contamination in inlet fitting cavity.
8. Damaged petcock diaphragm allowing fuel to flow through the vacuum line into the combustion chamber.

1986 yamaha fz400 wont start

You need fresh gasoline in it, if it's been idle for two(2) years, you also have to clean everything that your gasoline touches like the tank, fuel filter, fuel line, carburator, before pouring it in. If that wont help you, Have your CDI tested if your plugs wont spark. Also ask for the history of your bike, if it was running before they stopped using it.
