You either have a major air leak(that you would hear) or the turbo is getting a bit old. Also check the turbo oil lines.Make sure they are feeding so the turbo can spin.Hope this helps

I have a 1983 280 ZX turbo, there is a slight hesitation when accelerating. What can cause this?

if this is a carby engine then the hesitation can be from a faulty power valve in the carby (Carby overhaul) or incorrect timing . It could be an indication that the turbo is not spooling up quickly enough to produce the air required on acceleration Check for any split/loose vacuum hoses that are altering the mixture

Turbo / Boost Issues

Sounds like a faulty boost pressure sensor or waste gate. I would check the waste gate first. Sounds like it is opening to soon and letting the boost out, than regaining again.

1982 Yamaha Seca Turbo (XJ650LJ) Had the carbs

Mine was stored for 20 years, I ended up replacing the seat and needles, cleaning them thoroughly and when I tried starting it, nothing!! No gas was going to the carbs, it turned out to be my gas pump, it was seized by the old gas remains 'varnish' so I had to clean it numerous times, soaked it in gas cleaner (short period at a time 15 minutes or so, being a very powerful cleaner, you cannot leave it for long without causing greater problems, thus I was able to get the pump going by boosting it with my car batterie, having more cranking amps directly to the pump, the pump was able to release itself from the old crusty varnish.

The Turbo Charger does not seem to engage .I was led to believe that after around 30 miles per hr. it would be like haveing a passing gear. Oh yes the car is a 1984 Nercedes SD 300 series Desiel.

The turbo charger has more to do with rpms than road speed. The turbo uses exhaust gas leaving the engine to push more fresh air into the engine thus creating higher compression and more horse power. You should feel some boost above 1500 rpms if everything is working properly. If not then you should have the system checked by a dealer or a good diesel shop.Good Luck!

I have a 1987 toyota supra with turbo . I just replaced the stock 48mm turbo with a 61mm turbo from cx racing the waste gate on the stock one was broke. with the new turbo it wont spool up past 3 pounds...

a turbo works from expanding exhaust gasses
on the smaller turbo the gasses fill the snail and turbine wheel exactly
That is the engineered design for that size engine
however with the bigger turbo there is not an increases in exhaust gasses to actively drive the turbine so it has been a wasted exercise
with turbos , bigger doesn't equal better as it has to be in relation to the gas flow from the exhaust
again if you haven't reset the ECM for the extra fuel needed for the bigger turbo and inlet flow then there is not the hot exhaust gasses needed to drive the turbine wheel to create the extra boost

Mk3 Supra Turbo Boost Gauge Problems

The gauge is working fine, the turbo will not kick in untill the engine is spinning fast enough, as the turbo is propelled by exaughst from the engine. So, you can drive around normal and never use the turbo, and climb in the gas and spool the turbo up, what you are noticing is called turbo lag, which is the biggest down fall when compaired to superchargers!

Loss of power noisy engine turbo does not come in on a 19 tdi volkswagon sharan

Well,

The turbo bearing is gone. The turbo is not able to create enough boost. A local mechanic is going to have to change out the turbo. This is an expensive repair.

Good luck
