Question about 2009 Honda TRX450R Elec Start
The starting problem is caused by a failure in the starter circuit: the power button, the solenoid or the starter motor. You first check the motor by jumping/powering it directly from the battery with 2 long and thick wires(if it starts turning then it's good). Next you check the solenoid by jumping its connectors. Finally you check the button by jumping its connectors. They are faulty if the starter motor starts turning when you jump them. Find the faulty part and replace it.
The TRX420 has 3 different transmissions fitted to it: from a fully manual one to an automatic clutch with an manual gearbox , up to a fully automatic. In your case it's most likely the second one and the automatic clutch has failed and it will have to be replaced. This is a very complex repair job that requires an very good experience in these types of devices, you must take it to a repair shop
