Question about Yamaha V Star Silverado Motorcycles

1 Answer

Rode my motorcycle about 50 miles. Stopped for about 15 - 20 minutes, but didn't turn the key all the way off. Now it won't start. Headlight is bright, but no engine light, neutral light are on. Won't start (not even a click). Got a jump from a car (had the car turned off) and it still wouldn't respond. Is it most likely just a dead battery? battery is only 2 to 3 years old.

4. Bank Angle Sensor tripped and Ignition/Light Key Switch not cycled to Off and then back to Ignition

Runs for few minutes down rode then dies get started again sometimes die sometimes fine if petcock diapham do i need to take off to check

To check the diaphragm, pull the fuel line off the petcock and connect a short hose leading into a catch can. Spin the engine with the starter or crank the engine for a few seconds and watch the rate of flow. If it looks like enough fuel, then the diaphragm is probably fine. Have you checked the tank vent in the fuel cap? If the cap vent is plugged, the bike won't run but about a mile or so before it quits. Loosen the fuel cap on the right side if your bike is a Softail otherwise loosen the fuel cap but don't take it completely off. Just enough to allow air to vent into the tank and take it for a ride. If the tank is full, I'd advise draining about half the fuel out or you'll have it in your lap. Not good. You can take the cap off, wipe it good and clean and try to **** and blow through it with your mouth. I've done it plenty of times because I didn't have time to ride the bike on the road. Might need to brush your teeth afterwards, and I wouldn't smoke for while, but it'll tell you if the cap vent is bad.

Good Luck

Check the dash once you turn the key to the run position the passlock runs a security check using a set resistance value through the chip in the key. If the security light begins to flash the reading it received was incorrect or it didn't get a reading at all. You can try reseting the value it is looking for by turning the key to start then releasing it. After 10 minutes turn it off then cycle it start again leaving it in on for 10 minutes then back to off then one more time. After the third cycle has completed for a total of 30 minutes. You should be able to turn the key on and start the vehicle. If the light continues to flash their is a problem with the chip in the key or the connections within the ignition its self. Both are common but a Pass Lock Relearn as described above will usually adapt to the poor connection values. Hope this helps.

What oil do i use in the engine

Use any motorcycle oil that has the JASO MA rating. 10w-40 for cold climate .20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Do not use any oil that says Energy Conserving it will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears(wrong additives). Synthetic oils will help your bike run cooler and shift easier.
