Dis-connect the negative connection from the the top of the motor and check for corrosion. The bike with not fire if it isn't getting a good ground. I have a 1983 750 shadow would not start dumped a lot of parts into it before I found the corroded connection.

where exactly is the connection? I haven't been able to find it on my 1983 Honda Shadow VT 750c. I have the same issue

The 1983 Shadows are known for wiring issues. Start from the
positive battery terminal and trace the wire all the way to the starter. Check
the main fuse, all connections for corrosion. Even a small amount can cause
problems. Also check the yellow wires going to the stator. Also do a search for Shadow forums they are very helpful.

check spark assist modules for damage / replace, check coils for power, then move on to the pulse generator sensors these are what create the spark by collapsing the coil fields. and of course make sure all frame grounds are nice and clean.

I've got a 2000 Honda shadow ace vt750cd2. Back cylinder is running too rich blowing liquid gas out the baffle of the back cylinder, making the spark plugs black and wet with gas.

Hi, Rene a loose main jet in the carb could be the bad guy or faulty ignition coil, cable or spark plug or very low compression in the rear cylinder for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Honda, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. Why can't I get my 1986 Honda Shadow 650 to fire? I'm getting power everywhere but through the coils.

Hi, Billy and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
5. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
6. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
7. Faulty CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
8. Faulty ignition switch.
9. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
10. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

How do I bypass cdi box on 1100 honda shadow to start bike

the cdi box( capacitor discharge ignition) is what gives you the current that energizes the coil for the plugs
by pass it and there is little chance of it starting
best replace it with a new item and then chek the rest of the system for faults ,like coil, power to the box, problem in the distributor , cap,and any other item in the ignition circuit.

Where is the cdi box located on 1983 honda shadow vt500

Possibly either behind one of the side covers (CDI might be attached to battery holder)
Or possibly under the tank bolted to frame.
Good Luck with it.

Hi there I'm stuck I don't know how to check the

Sorry but they either work or they dont.
If yours isn't working, replace it.
But before you replce it consider checking the other components, because ign mods are exspensive.
it sounds like you've been already checking the other stuff. heres what i'd check if your bike came to my shop.
1. battery fully charged, and can take a load. (weak batteries = weak ign power)
i have a bike that won't fire at all with weak battery. Make sure battery is good.
2. check for spark at plugs, make sure plugs are good. Pull plugs and turn motor over.
rest plug next to head and turn over, do not touch the plug while turning over
or you can be shocked.look for spark.
if you have spark , then you ign mod is working.
if no spark, then check #3
3. power to coils. check the power going into coils,
if power but no spark, then coil is bad.
if no power. check #4
4. power to coils comes from a ignition system ( points/ cdi /ign. module)
there is a stator and a rotor. and a signal generator. on your motor
the signal generator wire sends a signal to the cdi, every time the rotor rotates.
the ignition system (ign.mod) sends power to coil.
so if no signal to the cdi, then signal generator is bad
if signal going into cdi but not sending the power to the coils then the cdi/ ign. mod is bad.

Hope that helps
Best Regards
Big Al

1987 Honda shadow vt1100c no spark at any plug

The voltage on the coils is present except at the instant of firing. The interruption of the voltage is what causes the coil to fire. The cdi box is what causes the voltage interruption.
The interruption is very hard to detect. You are not the first to be stymied by that box. If you have access to an oscilloscope, I think you can see the pulse if it occurs.
