Question about 2008 BMW R 1200 GS Adventure

1 Answer

Low beam not working, LAMPF on display. Had a bad battery when I noticed this problem. One bad cell. Replaced battery, problem remains. I have installed HID's, but there is simply no voltage to the low beam socket, at all. No voltage at the headlight fuse under the beak either. I also have a SERVICE indication on the display. What can I do to clear the SERVICE indication, and how do I get my low beam to light up again.

Hi, Chrisblower if your headlight is not working the first thing to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply to headlight bulb socket.
2. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
3. Faulty ignition switch.
4. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
5. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.

SOURCE: I have a yellow warning

There are no fuses on your bike. Are you sure that all the bulbs are working?? Check the front parking lamp, is it out??

Check all the lamps on the bike including turn signals etc. If indeed there are no lamps out, then there is some kind of problem with the ZFE which is the module that controls the lamps and other electrical loads on the bike.

Maybe time to check the stored trouble codes with dealer computer or a GS-911 scanner. Your bike is likely still under warranty??

Good Luck!

Check your connections at the wiring harness going to headlights for corrosion, sounds like high resistance somewhere, also make sure your ground wires are secure. It wouldn't be the alternator or the battery would be dead and not start the engine. Also shouldn't be any condensation in your head light assembly's or will cause bulbs to blow prematurely.

One low beam wont turn on, but both high beams will

ok if you run a power wire to the positive on battery does it go?
if so its a plug or cable issue. if not make an earth wire for the earth side of light and try the power again. if it goes you have a bad earth.

Low beams turn off after about 5 min high beams work when you hold the switch replaced the relay under the hood still same problem what do i do now?

Make sure you've changed the correct relay. Next unhook the battery. Sometimes the computer will retain the fault code sent by the bad relay and think the bad relay is still there although it's been changed. On rare occasion, you can get hold of a faulty "new" part. Also check wiring associated with the relay. A bad wire or short can cause a good relay to go bad.

Battery being drained and low beam light not working

check your alternator to make sure it is putting sufficient charge to charge the battery. he proper thest would be to take it to a parts store and have them tell you the voltage. a get by test would be to start the carnd disconnect the battery and see how long the car runs. IF it dies then your alternator is bad.

This sounds like a loose connection/bad wire somewhere for the low beam lights. Can't really give you more information without seeing the vehicle, and wiring diagram for the circuit. Usually, things that go on and off when hitting bumps are connection/wiring problems. The fact that one of your low beam headlamps burnt supports this theory. Bad connections or wiring mean lower voltage, thus higher amperage at the bulb, motor or whatever it's running, which makes them burn a lot quicker.

Low headlights do not work

Check your hi/low beam switch. It sounds like you are not getting power through the switch on low beams.
