Question about 2009 Suzuki GS500F

1 Answer

While riding my Suz GS500F (2009) home in the rain last night I started seeing smoke coming from the lower left side of the motorcycle. Stopped at a light and loads of smoke came up through the fairing. Accompanied with it was a nsaty burning smell. Dealer said it may be water hitting the headr pipes. Started after dry, smell still there but no smoke. the bike only has 600 mi. on it and just got back from the dealer for the 600 mi service. Any ideas other than me taking it back to the dealer?

I presume that you were riding it back from the dealer when you had the smoke problem ?? in that case one possible cause could be that when they serviced it they got some oil on the exhaust pipe and when the pipe got hot it burned it off. let me know if that helps or not. Alex.

sounds like a CDI issue!
could also be an ignition switch or run/stop switch issue.
is the bike lacking any power when running?
Maybe stator pick-up coil as well.
Have electrical components checked at the dealer.

White smoke is classic head gasket problems in water cooled engines ... Your engine is air cooled but you can still have top end troubles. I suggest you have your motorcycle checked by a professional before you ride much more. info on your ride here: http://www.honda2wheelersindia.com/activa/specifications.html

On a 40 mile freeway ride home my '01 RSV 1000 began to smoke very heavily for say 5 miles temp constant 170 then it stopped. Initially I thought I blew it up smoke was so bad did seem to lose power....

Sorry man but yes,
Aprilia especially their higher end motorcycles are precision machines they don't just start to smoke take it to a dealer you trust. If you catch the problem early you could save some money

No start 09 Ultra Classic Electra Glide

Sounds like your charging system is not charging the battery.

Put a volt meter on the battery, run the engine up to maybe 2,000 RPM. The voltage must be at least 13.8V, but not more than 14.5.

If that is all OK, your battery is worn out, and is not holding sufficient reserve. It would need to be replaced.

Guages stop and irratic idle with dimming lights

what probley happened the alternator started to heat up alittle to much and caused the belt to spin on the pulley i would go ahead and get the alternator replaaced as soon as possible. as for the lights dimming and the gauges not working you was running off your battery making the vehicle mess up i would also get your battery checked while your at it.
