Question about kawasaki ZX-9R Ninja Motorcycles

2 Answers

I have a 1998 Kawaski ZX-9 that has sat for 2 years. I put a new battery in and it has a very hard time starting and once you get it started it seems to not be running on all 4 cylinders, I changed the plugs and cleaned carbs with no improvement. I feel it may have something to do with the coils(just a guess) but i'm not sure how to test or where to begin. Any ideas?

Plug wires may be bad-they wear inside--the float level ajustment on carbs cud be off--timing may be slightly off--compression on a cylinder cud be weak--get a clymer manual for details

Lets start with the carbs. You say you cleaned them. But did you remove and clean the jets ? start there.

The fuel injectors probably have crud on them, try taking them out and cleaning with carb and choke cleaner but don't get it on the electrical connections

98 sunfire with starting problem, only has 89000 kms, changed battery, had starter checked, only seems to have a problem when car has sat for more than 3 hrs

This could indicate a weak fuel pump or clogged pump strainer. I would start by replacing the fuel filter since this should be done every two years. The fuel pressure bleeds off after some time so the pump has to try to build the pressure back up on a cold start. This is the cheapest and easiest fix to try first.

hi this may help, check the voltage of the battery first, should be at least 13.2 v static, and on a completly different approach, check that the sidestand and clutch lockout switches are functioning properly, particularly the sidestand one, they are prone to failure and when they do they wont let start current through to the starter relay..hope this helps..cheers

i'm not understanding the question, it sat for too long, then you started it and it broke a belt????????????

if that is correct, OUCH, that caused severe head damage.
do not rotate engine untill it can be checked !!!!!!!!
