Question about 1974 Yamaha TX 750

1 Answer

I am installing a clutch cable on my Yamaha TX750. I am having trouble with figuring out where the spring is supposed to be on the cable when its installed. Please help. Maybe even a diagram.

Gday.
I had a look at the parts fisch.Check this link.
http://www.mrcycles.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=149504&category=MOTORCYCLES&make=HONDA&year=1990&fveh=3486
Only spring I can see is the one at no 31 on the diagram labled clutch.
It would connect to the spare hole at part 14 at one end & the actuating arm to the other I think.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards Andrew Porrelli

The pressure plate should move when the clutch lever is pulled in if not then ther is something missing or worn not sure on a yamaha but on a honda I think there is a bearing or bushing on the pushrod on the left side of the the tramsmission make sure everything is there look at the parts diagram http://yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/50045a12f8700209bc793c69/clutch

On a 06 yamaha vstar 650 i installed a new clutch but are the plates suppose to move when clutch is disengaged?? if so what is the gap suppose to be and how do u adjust it

Clutch drive plates (usu. has friction pads and tabs on outer rim) alternate with Clutch driven plates that are smooth with teeth on inner rim. These slot into clutch "basket" and clutch hub. (the basket is driven via the crank and the hub drives the gearshafts) They are bound by the springs and endcaps bolted to the pressure plate in the basket. The plate movement or spread is negligable, 10-15mm spread over 13 plates. This spread is goverened by the actuating step gear thruster which cannot be adjusted.
The lever adjustment is for the amount a free play and the crankcase adjustment governs take-up spot; where resting lever returns the thruster. this can effectively allow the clutch to drive whilst having slack at lever, or vice versa.
Hope this is helpfull, Cheers.
