There are few possibilities to be checked. The kill switch, the kick stand switch, the neutral safety switch. The kick stand switch down, and then start. Short in neutral safety switch wires. the neutral light bulb is faulty.

Try by passing the kick stand switch then check. ---------

If the neutral light is still not coming on then the circuit that allows the starter to function is "open" ( no electrical flow).

It must got through the neutral light circuit to be able to signal the starter relay that it's NOT in gear and allow the relay to be engaged by the starter button ( Neutral Safety Switch ).That way the starter circuit knows it's not in gear ...the kickstand is just another check in the starter circuit to make sure that it's safe to start

There should be a switch on top of the trans that has 2 terminals to it and when the trans is in neutral that switch has a ball in it that is moved up (by the shift drum inside the trans ) and makes contact to allow the light to work and the relay to tell the starter circuit it's in neutral and it's safe to start. Make sure it's plugged in.... and if it is.... then unplug it and us a ohm meter and make sure there is "continuity " through the switch in neutral (key on) position and to see if the rest of the circuit is ok you can take a paper clip and jumper the switch connector and see if the light comes on with the key on............( if it's a one wire circuit then the light circuit is just grounded through the engine case and all you have to do there is ground it to the engine case OR run a wire to the battery "Negative" and see if the light works). If it doesn't and the switch has continuity then you will have to dig deeper into it depending if it has a bulb in the dash then it might have to be replaced OR a wiring issue . Try disconnecting the wire for the neutral indicator, clean it up a little and plugged it back in. Then check. Also check the gauge wirings, if there is any or short wiring, then it can also cause the problem.---------- this should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Have a 1989Pontiac 6000 LE it won't start. It has new battery starter and altermator. I turn key and have nothing no clicking noise or nothing. Any help greatly appreciated

When turning the key to start measure for B+voltage at the S terminal on the starter solenoid . If no B+ voltage possible bad park neutral safety switch . check For B+ voltage at the heavy gage battery cable on the starter while trying to cranking the engine , less then battery voltage , bad cable . Find starter voltage drop testing on youtube , watch the video . Also starter circuit testing .

Gauges going crazy

Euc? Do you mean ecu, the computer? Don't think so. Something in the cluster, maybe the little voltage regulator on the back of the cluster. But if the engine light is flashing, definitely have it scanned for trouble codes, first, to see why the light is on. The light may indicate a poor link or connection with the cluster.

I bought a 1996 Jetta GLS, drove it home with no problems. This is my first car and wanted to learn how to drive a stick, i killed it of course but now it wont even start again. I turn the key all the way...

I would have the battery checked out still, it don't take much power for the radio to work, and by what you say, that the gas and temp. gauge jump up and down when trying to start, that tells me weak battery, most auto parts will do a free battery test for you, have it checked out. hope this was very helpful.

Vehicle will not crank but all items(headlights, rear lights, interior lighs, radio, windows) are working fine. Alternator, starter and battery have all been checked but still wont crank. No clicking or...

Check and see if the shift indicator is showing that it is in a drive position when the shifter is in park. This will cause the vehicle to not start because the computer thinks it is in gear and not allow power to the starter. The problem is the ignition switch. Also check the neutral safety switch on the side to the transmission. This is a 12 pin connector. The number 11 pin is power to the safety switch,12 is crank voltage, and 1 is starter relay coil supply voltage.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Check gage ligh on..

It could be worn camshaft bearings that is lowering your oil pressure. I had the same situation with my 2000 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl. Changing the oil pressure sending unit did not make a difference. I used a higher viscosity oil and that prolonged the life for almost another year. If you put an oil pressure gauge on it and let it run at a prolonged normal temperature, it will give you a definite answer wheter or not the engine has low oil pressure. The real problem is finding the cause. Camshaft bearings are a likely source. According to the spec book, the I-6 engine had low oil pressure numbers to begin with.
