Is the engine cranking,.when you turn the key to on.Or there is no start, no crank at all.If there is no crank, then it can be battery to starter, the starter and starter solenoid problem, it can be stator issue. The stator is not charging the battery or giving power to battery to start the engine.--------- But if its cranking, and not starting then there is possibility, that it can be due to no power from coil to spark plugs or due to faulty side stand switch.
If there no power to the coil it would not let the engine to start. Your side stand switch will not allow the bike to start either. Other possibility can be messed up dirty/ clogged carb.It has to be cleaned.
Also get the ignition switch and ignition wire harness, if there is short or loose connection, it will cause same problem.-------------
This troubleshooting will help to point towards the faulty part. This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
The main fuse is under the panel on the right side behind the forks and the rest of the fuses are in the crank case under the cover...where you fill the oil. Also get voltage to the battery and is the voltage regulator charging the battery, check that too. Also check voltage at ignition switch and ignition harness.

This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Go to your battery find out where that smoke is coming from. It sounds like summer your wires melted together. That was cause everything the short out, make sure your battery is charged, take it out of the bike and charge it and make sure you got about 12.67 V coming out of it. When you tested smoke coming from anywhere as bad. You could have some wires melted together file your wire harness, make sure that's not so
