if im not mistaken there is usually only one but there can be as many as 4 but its a safe bet on the cavalier thats its only one its located on the exhaust usually on the pipe in front of the resinator or catalytic converter. you may have to get under the car in order to see it.

Speedometer quit working and my transmission quit shifting at the same time,It has a 2.7 liter

Have the vehicle scanned and you will probably find that the output shaft speed sensor. This controls the signal for the speedometer and the shifting.

Speedometer acting erratic on 99 chevy cavalier

Check the VVS (vehical velocity sensor) "speed sensor", The vss controls shifting and cruise control as well as speedometer. If the Cavalier shift's fine and cruise control work, the it's going to be a good chance that the speedometer n the instrument panel may have a bad connection or the stepper motor needs to be replaced. Get a service book and attempted to check for voltage going to speedo cluster( at dash), to determine if your stepper motor is bad and replace the motor or the whole instrument panel.
Good luck and thank you for using fixya.

89 chev truck 1500 4X4. Speedometer only works sometimes.

Sounds like a loose connection on insterment cluster. or a dead spot on printed circute, either way dash will have to come apart to fix.
