If your bikw is backfiring it means that the timing is off. When an engine backfires it means that the exhaust valves are opening too soon. when that happens they are partially or all the way open when the air/ fuel mix is ignited in the cylinder. Check the wiring leaving the flasher relay to make sure that there are no breaks. Sometimes there is also a seperate fuse that runs inline with the relay to protect it so make sure that if there is a seperate fuse that it is ok. The relay part number that I came accross is ZZ38170. When i searched for your vehicle it said that it was a 4 prong flasher and this came up many times.
Hi, concerning the missing and backfiring, engine timing is off or fuel system is running too rich. Or a bad connection in the ignition system. Back firing is a term used to describe two types of miss firing in the cylinder. A pop back is when the engine miss fires through the intake. Most often the back fire happens throught the exhaust. The intake happens if the fuel mixture is too lean and the exhaust happens if the mixture is too rich. Thats if it is a fuel problem. If its a engine timing problem, its either advanced or retarded. Air leaks in the fuel system can cause this too, like carburator gaskets which lean out the mixture.
It sounds like you have a ground wire problem. The turn signals are controlled by a turn signal module. When it senses not enough current is being sent to the signals then it make them flash. Check your wiring. Follow the ground wire and see hows its attached.

Ground wire from the module? If so, where is the module?
It sounds like an exhaust misfire, how can I tell? If it's something with the mixture, are there settings or a different size jet that I should check? I have a service manual for the bike but Im not real familiar with this bike. I need some more specifics.
Can anyone be more specific as to where to go with this misfire problem? Should I change any settings or jets on the carb. to see if it is a fuel problem? I'm not real familiar with this bike and need further assistance.
With the signal light problem, where should I look for the ground wire problem?
thanks for your response. I'll check the wiring.
I have a service manual, is the timing something I can fix with limited tools or do I need specific buell/harley testers/diagnostics?
