SOURCE: my 2006 yamaha v star 650 will run with choke on

You have a vacumm hose loose look for small hose no connecter to anything - should solve it - I had a similar problem with a ZX9r the other day - same would run fine on choke not idle or start without it

Good Luck

SOURCE: Stalling

does it have a fuel pump? It could be going bad.. if not, it could be a bad battery...but since it looks like a 2008 its doubtful and could be just loose or dirty connections in the battery circuit.

Sounds like the fuel filter is pluged or you got crud in the carbs and they will need took apart and cleaned.

SOURCE: DOES NOT WANT TO START GOOD, BUT RUNS FINE. HOT

If the problem is only in cold weather, the mixture it is lean. If the carb adjustment didnt help, it may need a bigger idle jet.
If every thing else is ok like valve clearances , it should start with a couple of kicks.
make sure the choke works, and the air cleaner is serviced and oiled. If the bike sits for any lenght of time between rides, drain the carburator before the first kick.

Sounds like this may be a carb issue,,,, time to have a professional clean, set, and synchronize them!!

'87 Yamaha ProV 50: Will cold start and idle well. After a full throttle 1-2 min run will begin & continue running very rough near idle. Will die without addtl throttle imput.

Hi Roderick:
I'm not familiar with your engine configuration, but on some of the older bikes, vibration eventually can cause a wire to break in the coil. When the engine is cold, the wires make contact and it runs, but as soon as it gets hot, the connection is broken or compromised and the spark quits or drives you crazy.
Since your bike runs when cold and quits when hot, I'd be looking for electrical rather than fuel problems.
Hope this helps.

I have a 05' Yamaha 650 V Star and it will only run if the choke is fully out, hot or cold engine. If the choke is pushed in, it immediately dies.

Has the bike been parked for two weeks or more? If so, the fuel has most likely gummed up and plugged fuel passages and jets. Might try adding 1/2 to full can of SeaFoam to existing fuel in the tank, crank the bike and run (with choke if you have to) at a high idle for several minutes. Shut it down and let set for an hour or so allowing the SeaFoam to work. Start bike again and run at high idle again, trying to run it without the choke. If this doesn't work, then the carb probablyneeds a tear down and a manuel cleaning and reset.

Won't idle down after it warms up

after the bike has warmed up, then reset the idle to approx 1000rpm. then see what happens when its cold. some bikes are cold blooded and the use of choke is necessary for a bit, at least until it warms up...
