I have a 2006 1200s lighting that I just got and the problem is that when you come to a stop it will not idle.thi.vs I have done is new plugs air filter and change the oil

Your Jeep is Burning Oil. Do you need a Quart every Now and Then? The only way to fix this is to get the Piston Rings Replaced and is not Cheap. There are a Few Additives on the Market that you can put in the Motor to Minimise the Problem for a While. You need to go to Your Auto Parts Store and see what is available in your Area on these though. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

I Have A R1 2000 carb and i ride with a lot of guys these bikes just take 2-20 secs to start after that they run great your bike is fine leave it alone

being an older bike, maybe a wire from the hand controls is shorting out, even in side the handle grip switches, or going down the neck under the tank. normaly a throttle cable problem would cause the rpms to go up when turning the handle bar, thats why im suspecting a short

I'd be looking at removing IAC valve, and cleaning it out with throttle body spray cleaner, and checking mounting gasket as well. Usually some success with cleaning it & spray ports it came out of, but if not you may need to replace it.

if this is happening when the foot is on the brake, then it is possible that the brake booster is leaking air and running the engine too lean.

Although "jerking" doesn't rhyme with "plugs," I think I understand your question.
Depending on what kind of car it is (you didn't say), there is likely either an air bypass or an Idle Air Controller, which is designed to maintain the idle under the load of the a/c compressor. If the air bypass or IAC is not functioning correctly, the idle will be allowed to fall below specification, making the car idle rough because the idle is too low.
Check to be sure that your air bypass or IAC is working properly.

What causes a rough idle when in gear at a stop


There are a few things that can cause this.
1 running your gas tank too low -junk in the gas clogs the gas filter -easy cheap fix
2 the idle could be off too much air or gas on the mixture going into the carb.
3 Timming. this should be done twice a year or so -need timing light -any garage can check it.
4 Need new spark plugs and or wires.
Start with these then see what happens.

Rough idle 95 astro van, I did a full tune up , plugs,wires,cap, rotor,air filter,and fuel filter and cleaned egr vavle.


I actually had to replace my EGR valve and the gasket. I clean the valve well and reused both. I don't think the gasket sealed well enough though. So I went ahead and got a new valve, gasket and changed them. It runs a lot smoother now.

Hello: It sounds like you have a throttle with excessive carbon build up, remove the hose (air induction) from the throttle body use a clean soft towel and carburetor cleaner and clean the throttle plate and bore of the throttle body, do not spray an excessive amount of cleaner into the throttle body. After cleaning and reassembly, make sure key is off and disconnect negative (black) battery cable for 15 seconds.

when this is done idle air volume needs to be relearned .to my knowledge dealer only procedure .i could be wrong but i dont think aftermarket scanner software supports this.more good news.po420 you need a cata lytic converter.p2135 and po 123 you need a new throttle chamber assembly.

The Idle Air Control runs idle speed, it may be stuck or just bad. its located at the left rear corner of the throttle body, make sure its plugged in.

Idled high, replace IAC and PCV, now idles low and stalls


On modern day cars the parts that get fitted need to be adapted to the ECM using a decent diagnostic machine. I bet that this was not done and the car is now suffering as a result.
Something to try is resetting the ECU, simply disconnect battery for 10 minutes, reconnect, then start car from cold *without touching gas pedal* and leave idling until the rad fan comes on (this resets all the base idle settings) then take it for a drive - hopefully will solve the problem
