Clutch does not go bad. It just wears out. And the indication is that your bike will not accelerate as much as the throttle you apply. The engine keeps running, and you cant get the pickup that it had earlier. You feel that the clutch lever is pressed and hence the bike is not responding as much as the gas you are burning. It results in more gas consumption. You can keep adjusting the clutch lever, and ultimately, the limit would be reached when you cant tighten the lever any more. Time to replace the clutch plate/s.
And when the clutch plate/s is/are completely worn out, the bike will not move forward. it will just rev up static.

Clutch trouble shooting

Either clutch control (can be cable or hydraulic) has failed or the clutch cover or bearing have failed.

Check control by watching the arm (cable) or cylinder (hydraulic) when the clutch is being operated - if there are no issues there, suspect cover or bearing, which usually means g/box removal...

But the question is what made this happen.. A LEAK.. the leak can be a bad clutch master or a bad clutch slave cylinder or the line that connects the two.. at worst it would be a collasped clutch cover or threw out bearing.. probably a leak or bad cylinder

When do you know when clutch going bad or is bad already??

The clutch itself needs to be inspected visually. Most times the clutch drum is OK but the springs and/or clutch shoes are worn. If there are groves on the inside of the drum, it will need to be replaced.

Can i drive car on bad clutch

IF the car moves ok and the engine doesn't rev up and go no where then yes if you know how to do it. Personally I would just bleed the air out of the clutch system and drive on a good clutch.

Clutch on my '91 ford explorer

Im pretty sure the vehicle has a bad throw out bearing. That's what's making the noise when you depress the clutch. It would need to be replaced, along with the clutch disc, and pressure plate.

I have a 650 yamaha, 15.000 miles, when I start to pass another vehicle and give it a lot of gas it feels like my clutch is trying to slip and this also happens when my bike is cold if I take off to fast....

adjust your clutch cable so that you have a bit of free play in the clutch lever. After adjustment, If the clutch engages (grips) at the very end of clutch lever travel then it might be time for clutch springs and plates.

My front driver window went down but now it will not go up and the other windows work fine

more than likely clutch is bad - part of a new motor assembly - if you unplug motor and checked voltage when window switch is pushed this will let you know if it's the motor or switch - no voltage - switch bad voltage +12 volts or -12 volts - motor /clutch bad

Will not go in gear

Hi lovekhaos, With the engine not running see if it will go into gear, if you have the clutch pushed in and have it in gear and try to start it, the car will jump forward and try to take off, be very careful, the clutch is not necessarily bad it could be the hydraulics that engage the clutch. Let me know what you find and I can help more. Please rate this solution. lone99star
