SOURCE: white smoke coming from exhaust

White smoke could indicate coolant in the combustion chamber. Not likely if you have an air-cooled bike. It could also mean that you are running in a cold climate, if the temp is around 20 or less I would call this normal.

If your bike is water cooled I would keep a close eye on your coolant level and oil level. A blown head gasket could allow water to get into the combustion chamber (causing the smoke) or mix with the oil (even worse). If you notice it using coolant I would have it checked out by a mechanic. If you want to check it yourself, do a compression check on both cylinders. If one is rather low, there is your problem.

SOURCE: 05 suzuki katana 750 idle issues

Idle issues can be fuel/air (mixture ratio) or igition (spark strength). It sounds like an air restriction issue. If there is no blockage throught the air inake/filter, make sure you adjust the jets to specifications and make sure there are no float issues with the carbs.

SOURCE: white smoke

Are you sure the smoke is white? White smoke is usually caused by antifreeze burning.(This could be a head gasket)

If the smoke is actually light gray it is oil burning.(This would be rings or valve seals)

If it smokes mostly on startup and then stops when it warms up (It could be a worn valve guide or deteriorated valve guide seal (or possibly several) allowing a tiny amount of oil into one or more cylinders).

If it smokes mostly when you are cornering (It could be too much oil in the crankcase).

Please rate this a fixya

If the smoke has a sweet smell to it then it is coolant from an internal leak inside the engine like a head gasket or other source. To confirm that you have a leaking head gasket have a shop problem the coolant recovery/surge tank with a gas analyzer for the presence of hydrocarbons in the coolant tank, this indicates for sure that a head gasket is the cause of the white smoke.

Have a toro self propelled. The engine cuts off as soon as it starts and prior to that it was blowing white smoke. It looks like there may be oil leaking under the exhaust, but can't tell where i

It could be that gas is filling the carb because the needle is stuck open. The excess can drain into the engine oil. If you check the oil and it's overfilled and runny, then you need to overhaul the carb and change the oil.

Are you losing coolant? If so then you could have a cracked head on the exhaust side and it is leaking coolant into the exhaust and being burnt.

If you are positive the smoke is white then that usually means there is water... coolant... that is being cumbusted. This is not good at all it could hydrolock and throw a rod. Get it checked out professionally. Also make sure you have fresh gas and a fresh plug in it.
