On most Softails, the starter relay is on the lower part of the rear fender on the front side, right behind the transmission. A one inch cube riveted to the splash guard of the rear fender.

Good Luck

How to check if starter relay on harley is good

Hi Anonymous, when you are trying to diagnois anything in the starter circuit you must start with a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or better and will pass a load test of 9 volts or better while cranking the engine over and the cable connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at "BOTH" ends. If you suspect a faulty starter relay check it for continuity and/or swap it with your horn, brake, or system/fuel pump relay temporarily, if the bike starts with no problems replace the bad relay. Good luck and have nice day.

Where is the starter relay located on a 2000 FXDL

Follow the small black wire from your starter solenoid and it will lead right to it or should anyway.

Starting problem,When I go to start the bike it blow's the fuse. I have tested the starter and when I put 12 volts to the coil it starts up fine,The switch tested Is there a relay some place.

I'm assuming that you put the 12 volts directly to the connector on the starter solenoid.

To answer your question, there is a starter relay. It's a one inch plastic cube type device usually located under the seat but I can't say for sure. Seems since 2000, Harley moves stuff around every year now and I can't keep up with them.

You starter has no fuse in the line. The cables that run your starter motor come directly from the battery. Only the starter CONTROL circuitry has a fuse. The wires running from your starter switch to the starter relay, to the starter solenoid are the control wires. Now, you solenoid may be pulling too much current and causing the fuse to blow. I'd rule out everything else before I'd consider the solenoid. The only way to change that is a new starter and they aren't cheap.

Good luck

2000 Harley electra glide - Tap the starter relay and the radio goes out?

The power for several other things on your bike passes through the starter relay as well. If this is happening, you probably need to replace the relay. Check the plug and it's connectors as well.

Good Luck

I am putting a wireing harness bak on a 05 road king i have power to the starter but when i hit the sarter buttn nothig happens

There are a starter relay located on your bike somewhere. Since Harley is notorious for moving it from place to place, I'm sorry I can't tell you where it is. Usually, on dressers, it's under the seat on the front side of the rear fender. When you press the starter button on the handlebar, you should hear a faint click from the relay.

After the relay, the power goes to the small wire on the end of the starter. The end of the starter is shaped kinda like a pentagon, 5 sided. You'll see a single wire that is usually green connected there. When you press the starter button and the relay energizes, you should have voltage on this wire. If not, you're back to the starter relay for the problem. If you do have voltage on this wire, you've got problems with the starter itself.
