Question about 1979 Harley Davidson XLH 1000 Sportster
I presume that you are speaking about the quick disconnect plug. these need to have each wire released.
SO, Make an ACCURATE map of where the wires go (so you can put it back together), then to release the wires, there is a tool that fits over the connection from the plug side. This collapses a retainer flap, and the wires pull out from the wire side of the connector.
This wire tool can be had from a parts store.
