Question about Honda CX 500 A Motorcycles

The problem is the carburetors have become gunked up due to the alcohol laced fuel sitting in the tank. The gunk travels to the carburetors and solidifies in the orifices and on the needle valves and will not allow proper fuel flow. You can start it with the choke system which allows some fuel, but this bypasses the main system. When you put a load on the bike it requires the mains to kick in, but that is not happening.
Try emptying the tank of old fuel, and adding some fresh fuel with a cleaner additive such as SEA Foam (sold at Walmart and others) or any other additive cleaner and run the bike at high RPMs and then let the bike sit over night to let the cleaner seep through the carburetors. Next day try to run the bike. Be warned the cleaner may cause the carburetors to stick in the open position and allow fuel to be vented overboard through the overflow tube. A sharp rap with a rubber mallet on the side of the carburetors may stop this overflow.
You may soon have to remove the carburetors and clean them off of the bike and go through a synchronization process.

There has been storage problems with the fuel we now have with ethanol. When storing or parking for more than a week or two, the fuel sets in the tank and carb and plugs jets and small passages. Sometimes, and I say sometimes, putting SeaFoam, Lucas, or other carb and fuel injection cleaner in the tank and running it at a high idle will help. When you are able to put in gear and it keeps running, ride it several miles ensuring it will keep running.
If the cleaner doesn't do the trick, then the carb or carbs need to be dissasembled and cleaned.
