It's on the left side(kick stand side) of the oil pan. It uses an allen wrench. Re-torque to 18 ft. lbs.

Where can I find the oil drain plugs on my 1989 Harley FXR? I'm doing a complete oil change. Ive looked at tons of different sites but the plugs don't match the location my bike.

Hi David, for a 1989 FXR the engine oil drains out of the oil tank via a rubber hose located at the rear bottom left corner, the transmission drains from a large threaded plug located on the bottom center of the transmission case, the primary chaincase oil drains from a small threaded pipe plug located on the outside of the primary cover directly below dead center of the clutch inspection cover. Good luck

Find the oil drain plug, remove, drain the oil into a pan, reinstall the drain plug a tighten, locate the oil filter and remove, check mounting surface to make sure the old gasket didn't stick. Coat the new filter gasket with oil and install hand tight. Refill the oil, make sure that you do not overfill. Some engines can be difficult, to identify the location of the drain plug and filter. There are thousands of configurations out there, If you are not familiar or can not locate the plug and filter, take the vehicle to a shop for service.
