If you neutral indicator light is not working it could be three things. One, the bulb in the indicator is bad. Two, the wires have come off the neutral switch in the transmission. Or, Three, the neutral indicator switch on the transmission is bad. Look at the chrome cover on top of the transmission on the right hand side of the bike. There is a switch with two wires running to it. One wire is a ground and the other goes to the switch, Disconnect the one going to the switch. Turn the ignition switch on and touch the wire you disconnected to ground. The neutral light should come on. If it does, the switch is bad and needs to be replaced. If it doesn't the bulb in the indicator is bad or there is a problem in the wiring.

2004 v star Silverado 1100. Neutral light is not coming on, can't find neutral, won't start with side stand down?

if the neutral light isnt working the bike assumes its in gear so it wont start with the stand down unless you pull the clutch in ,but it will cut out if you let the clutch out with the stand down.the neutral light works on a simple system it has a live feed to the bulb and the earth for the bulb goes to the neutral switch ,this is only earthed when in neutral which completes the circuit to the check your bulb is ok then check your neutral switch is earthed when in neutral, lastly check the bulb for a live feed.

I have a 2007 sportster that seems to skip neutral goin from first to second gear and from second to first both with the engine on and off. The gage N light doesnt even flash when passing through those...

Hey chris , i wouldnt worry about the neutral light coming on when your shifting thru the gears on acceleration. If your light isnt working or you missing neutral , try adjusting your clutch. Then if that isnt the probably find your neutral switch connector and ground the terminals together and your light should pop on . If not replace the switch. Im not sure what gauge you have there might be bulb for the neutral light also .

JEC0530ADB I have a 6/2 cable with ground presently can I use this wire for my new cooktop JEC0530ADB. Do I need a neutral for this unit.

The current cooktop worked with the 6/2 and thusly the new one should. It defiently advisable to use 6/3 wire but not necessary. It in essance already has a neutral using the ground, if the old one has any indicator lights that worked it used the ground as a neutral to complete the hot&neutral circuit necessary to light the indicator light. The indicators work off of a 120 volt circuit and 240 is needed to heat only

Have 1997 heritage softail classic neutral light will not come on even when changing blubs, other lights seem to still work, oil. bright lights, turn signals. Don,t know whar else to do?

Your neutral indicator switch may be bad. Look on the chrome cover on top of the transmission and you'll see a wire that plugs onto the neutral switch. Disconnect this wire and ground it to the engine. Turn on the ignition switch and the indicator light should light up. If it does, replace the neutral switch. If it doesn't, you've got a wiring problem between there and the indicator lamp.

Hello, I have a 2001 gsxr 600 that won't start. It sit for about a month and ran fine the last time I rode it. When I turn the key to the on position and the panel lights up and the rpm's tach out then go...

Well...normally with most bikes...neutral indication is only needed to start the bike while its on the sidestand.
Even though it is in neutral because it doesn't indicate it, you need to have the sidestand up, and the clutch lever pulled in to attempt a start. Make sure kil switch is set to Run.
If it does start....because of no neutral indication, it should kill the engine as soon as you try to set the sidestand down.
If it will start and look for the neutral indication issue, you need to trace the harness going to the neutral switch (or gear indication switch depending on make and model).
Any chance of rodent damage to wiring while stored....just seems odd the neutral light worked before...and now it doesn't. My experience is with Yamaha, and they usually grounded the neutral circuit at the switch, so you need all wiring connections secure and no wire breaks to get neutral indication, and satisy the interlocks.

The neutral indicator switch is mounted in the right-hand crankcase directly forward of the main drive gear shaft and behind the forward belt pulley.

To access the switch, you must remove the front belt pulley cover. To get to the switch itself, you'll have to loosen the final drive belt and remove the pulley.

Disconnect the wire from the neutral switch. Turn the ignition on and ground the wire. The Neutral indicator light should light up. If not, you have an electrical problem between the neutral switch and the indicator light. If the light works like it should but will not work when on the switch, you need to replace the neutral indicator switch.

Simply screw the old switch out and install a new one.

Neutral light not working, changed bulb, but still

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, have you checked the neutral position switch or its wiring? In most versions, the wire would be skyblue in color. Additionally, checked the diode. Alternately, if the turn signal lights indicator or the engine indicator lights are likewise not working, then check the signal fuse.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

03 999 wont crank

If the neutral light is not on, try pulling in the clutch and cranking the bike. Also check the kill switch on the bike, that will also keep it from cranking although that should not affect the neutral indicator. If the neutral indicator isn't working you may have to get into the transmission to repair it.
