It maybe some gear linking the shifter and transmission may have slipped off.The gears are to be checked.Try adjusting the clutch cable, if its got loose.Look on the right side bewteen the front cylinder and the radiator and there you will see the clutch cable and can be adjusted from there. Also check the shifter and shifter bracket. If the bolts are got loose or any thing obstructing the shifter , then it has to be cleaned. The input shaft will stop turning with the clutch pulled in so they tranny won't shift 'til you let it out a bit.--------Get the clutch, shifter, shifter brackets, the block in gear, the transmission needs to be inspected.A proper servicing for the parts is required. ------------ This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

I need 2,3 & 4 gear for Yamaha 1100 special 1982 model

Instructions
    • 1 The gears on a motorcycle run in this order: first, neutral, second, third, fourth and fifth. When you are moving, shifting up from first gear will skip over neutral and shift you right into second gear. The only time that shifting up from first will get you into neutral is when you are not moving.
    • 2 Pull in the clutch lever and tap the gear lever down until it stops. This will signify first gear. Pressing the gear lever down will shift you down one step and pressing it up will shift up one step.
    • 3 Tap the gear lever up one click while still holding in the clutch. This will put the bike into neutral.
    • 4 Start the bike. The bike needs to be in neutral to start.
    • 5 Hold in the clutch lever and tap the shifting lever down to shift to first gear.
    • 6 Release the clutch slowly and give it just enough gas to get moving.
    • 7 Listen to the motor to know when you need to shift. If the engine is making a low grumbling noise, then it will need to be shifted down. If it is making a high squealing noise, then it needs to be shifted up.

Hi, I have a 1999 Mercury Villager with the 3.3 Litre Nissan motor. Just recently my cousin replaced the timing belt, and distributor. When we got the van back it was having transmission problems. When you...

I would start by making sure the Trans Fluid level is correct. If the level is good, it sounds like your internal pressures are leaking down, and that is why it slips out of gear. Which means you have internal trans issue which would require the trans to be most likely removed and repaired.

Thanks Jay!

2001 Yukon XL SLT 4 speed Auto Transmission shift problem!

Sam,

I would start with a transmission fliud and filter service.

I would then have the trasnmission checked out by a transmission shop. The transmission most of the time has the direct drum band is starting to go. The shops can rebuild it no problem, This is a very common failure wiith the trasnmission.

Good Luck
