I've heard this before and it turned out to be the front belt drive pulley was worn in the splines area where it goes on the transmission final drive gear. The tell tale sign is an oil leak from this area about the size of a quarter or half dollar after you ride. You can wipe the oil up and it won't leak anymore until you start the engine or ride the bike. This is oil running down the spines of the final drive gear due to loss of tension on the quad seal behind the pulley spacer. The metallic sound is the sheave of the pulley rubbing the backside of the inner primary. Check the oil level in your primary and your transmisson. If the transmission is low, this could be the reason.

Good Luck
Steve

I just get a whirring noise when I press the start button .Is this a shot starter solenoid?

Depends on the bike.

Some bikes have starter motors with built in bendix clutches, others have direct drive starters with sprag clutches attached to the flywheel. Either way, the starter clutch is slipping and will need to be replaced.

Noise during wash kennmore washewr 110.925

It would be difficult to accurately diagnose this problem without some more info. But check these tips out and get back to me. (Go to www.searspartsdirect.com and search your model number to see an illistrated parts dreakdown of your machine). In the motor, clutch, transmission view it can be seen that the motor has the water pump mounted on one end of the motor, and the transmission mounted to the other end. It is direct drive, that is, no pulleys or belts to cause problems. The various functions ( agitate, spin) are selected by motor speed, and a clutch. The clutch is mounted on top of the tranny, below the agitator. I would say that, assuming that the noise is not load related, that if the noise goes with the movement of the agitator( ie: noise occurs when agitator changes direction) it probably originates in the tranny. If the noise is constant, then ckeck the bearings and clutch ***'y. It is not difficult to service this unit, the mechanical assy can be removed in 30 minutes, requires only a couple of common hand tools, is inentical across a multitude of Kenmore and Whirlpool models, and replacement parts are readily available from Sears. Pull the unit out, flip it over onto its side, and service it from the bottom. Hope this helps! Dano

In gear and release clutch bike does not move.

Put bike on center stand or lift rear wheel. Put cycle in gear and see if the rear wheel turns. Is there grinding in the final drive? check final drive oil for metal chips. Pull the rubber boot back from the motor to the swing arm to check if the shaft universal joint is broken. If final drive and shaft are OK then dump the engine oil into a clean pan, take the pan out into the sun light and check for metal chips there.

On a 1991 olds ciero a non engine external knocking noise. could this be the air conditioner compressor?

A failing AC compressor clutch will make noise more like a rattle but it will become hot enough when it is failing that the rubber grommets around the clutch plate will begin to "stink" as they begin to melt and fall out. It will smell like burnt rubber smoke.

If you remove the drive belt you can try to see if there is play in the pulley for the AC compressor but you won't be able to "engage" the clutch to test it (uses electrical switching). If you can spin the pulley and it makes noise, suspect a failing compressor clutch.

While you have the drive belt off spin the water pump pulley and you should only hear a gurgling noise from water in the motor being pushed and no metal on metal noise whatsoever. If you hear a clunking noise when the motor runs you could also have a worn motor mount so you would want to check those also.

Machine makes loud grinding noise and the drum will not spin.

Ok, your direct drive system is experiencing gear breakdown issues. the transmission(gearbox) is stripped and causing the grinding situation. The clutch is ruined as well. you may have some minor electrical motor trauma as well. i recommend disassembling the unit if possible, to inspect the direct drive and transmission/clutch assembly. you should see the drive/transmission under the drum assembly.

Check thoroughly for trauma spots. replace the direct drive assembly if damage is noticed.

There should be some kind of oil leakage around the drive assembly. inspect the motor as well.

If the motor is not smoking or humming, it should be fine. More than likely, it will be the drive and transmission assembly that will need to be replaced.

Please rate and have a great day:)

GE Prodigy Washing machine making clunking noise

One common problem area is the clutch assembly. The clutch is built on top of the motor, the motor drives the clutch and the clutch assembly drives the rest of the washer. The clutch gets very noisy when parts inside are worn out. The shoes lining that drives the inner drum of the clutch wear off and you will get a metal on metal sound. Clutches often can be rebuilt, but sometimes they are too worn and replacing the whole clutch is the best repair. Please use this link here for clutch replace and repair info. The belt and pump may be the next items to check for noises. How to access the washer. Clutch repair help.

I'm not sure, but that sounds like the throw-out barings. If thats the case and they went before the clutch did, then their could be some big problems up ahead.
