erratic compression indicates a cam lobe problem or cam follower problem
with that many miles on it , the cam shaft will have wear on it but the rest of the motor will have considerable wear including possible ring problems on the numbered pistons
If the body is rust free consider a new -out of the box engine as a cheap plug to stop the repair waste of money

Engine tap

I have had a few suzuki's and they are great little engines provided they get serviced on a regular basis, as they are a bit sensitive on the cylinder heads as the cam bearings are a fixed part of the head. This is a bit of a problem when you get metal wear that gets into the oil and gets in between the cam and cam bearings which are only Aluminium, thus the iron filings in the oil will scour the aluminium cam bearings being softer than steel or metal so to speak. So the good thing to do is make sure that the oil is always clean and free from metal wear deposits, and the only way to prevent this is to do an oil change at least every 10,000 miles or 20,000 kilometres, although every 5,000 miles or 10,000 kilometres is best, failing which you will get a tapping sound in the engine head which means that the bearings have been scoured or maybe if you're lucky it might just only be the incorrect valve clearance settings.Other than that I have never known them to give other engine problems out of proper maintained use. They are extremely reliable. I suggest you remove the tappert cover and remove the cam shafts to check whether the camshaft bearings are not scoured. Best of luck.

2000 buick lesabre has 64000 miles and uses a quart of oil in 3000 miles. Want to know what would cause this.

According to GM 1 quart per 1,500 miles is an acceptable oil consumption tolerance. 1 quart in 3k isn't bad.

I've had several gm 3.1 and 3.4 liters that have had there oil consumption issues remedied after the lower intake gaskets where replaced due to coolant leaking.

There are a couple of common problems that can cause oil consumption. Valve seals, bad rings, and PCV valves.

Valves seals would require a valve job which would requirethe removal of the heads. Rings would require a motor rebuild. Both of these are expensive options and oil is still pretty cheap.

Replacing the PCV valve might help. On the 3.8 it will be under the MAP sensor on the passenger side of the intake plenum.

As for as the intake gaskets, its a possibility but I don't have any hard evidence this could be the problem on a 3.8. Eventually the gaskets will start to leak oil. If you decide to replace them at that point I guess you will find out. I wouldn't do it on a hunch, its not a cheap repair.

How cn I tell if a 93 Ford escort has 64K miles? there is no more room for another digit, like 164K, what hapen after 99000? how can I tell the difference between 64000 or 164000?

The mileage turns over back to 000000 so you will have to look carefully for wear and tear on that vehicle, to truely know if it only has 64k or 164k miles. Start with the brake pedal; is the rubber pad all worn out around the edges? Is the carpet in the drivers side of the car really worn, with holes here and there? What condition is the driver's seat and seatbelt in? Frayed and worn? All these little things will tell the actual mileage on a vehicle, without relying on the odometer.

Let me guess - the LEFT channel.

If it's a 4-head deck, the Forward tracks are arranged across the physical tape surface, front-to-back as follows:

Side 2 Left
Side 1 Right
Side 2 Right
Side 1 Left

As you can see, the Left channel is close to the edge of the tape where most tape and head wear occur. High frequencies are affected first.

If you examine the edge of the tape when it is stationary there should be no waviness as this would cause poor head-to-tape contact.

Shine a high-intensity light on the tape where is passes over the heads. You should be able to identify the tracks. Looking closely you might also notice a worn pathway across the heads caused by miles of tape over the years. It changes the contour of the heads and how the tape rides on them. Wear can look like shiny bars (perpendicular to the tape travel) with rounded or wavy edges (not ruler straight).

Or it could just be dirty heads and transport.
