1998 ST starts from cold and runs well, but when attmpting to restart the battery appears to be flat and will barely turn over the engine. One hour later, it fired up first time. This has now happened...

It sounds like the alt is having charging problems. A good or new battery will build itself up after it sits by itself. You can take it to Auto Zone and have themtest the charging system while it is running. Does your lights come on automatically when you start the bike? If so check your charging system. Hope this helps please leave a comment.

On my 2000 955i sprint I had the same problem. I took the ignition switch apart and there was a loose wire. I re attached the wire and that solved the problem.

Have a 2002 triumph sprint st 955i, bike would

Hi, the problem lays with your side stand switch. This is designed to stop us riding off with the stand down. When the switch plays up the safety still works with the stand up. Try giving it a good clean and spray with WD40. It gets covered in crud from the chain lube.

2006 Triumph Sprint St

hey pal! Go to your favorite Motorcycle parts store (Cycle Gear etc) and buy 4 Qts of Castrol Syntec 10-30 or 10-40 wt. If you bike has a centerstand put in on center. Look carefully on both sides of bike engine for a small siteglass to check oil level..if you have a dipstick forget about the siteglass.Your bike will take between 3 &4 qts and we will start by putting 3 in the crankcase after we have put drainplug back in and installed new filter ok? Then start motor for 1 minute letting the oil pump into the new filter. shut bike off and check oil off as needed...Good Luck to you !....Tim

New battery goes flat in single day

check for short circuits. it can be stripped wire that makes contact with the bike chassis. This can drain the battery. Also, Charging circuit may be dead (alternator and regulator).

What to look for when buying?

I bought an 01 less than a year ago, and I can give you a rundown of the problem I had which seemed common. Feel good about this bike as the problem was very minor and I LOVE this bike. 1) Fuel Fittings...The tank has quick release fuel fittings which were recalled, but the recall only fixed part of the problem. as soon as I got mine, I smelled gas and had to replace the fittings. Cost under 100.00 US to get really good chromed fittings. 1 hour of work and they're great. they're located on the right side of the tank while seated and are just behind the frame. Flashlight and you should see them. 2) Take an assortment of allen wrenches to pull the bodywork if you can. At least drop the belly pan and look inside for signs of oil leaks. Mine was tight as a drum. I've put about 2000 miles on it since purchase and still loving it. That's it. This bike is well made-runs strong!! Hope he doesnt let it get away
