I am installing an Ultima Wiring Harness 18-530 on my Harley. I have Fat Bob tanks and earlier model switch and console. How do I wire Neutral and Oil dash lights?

That is obvious from the wiring diagram . How do I make dash lights work? There is no connection showing or in your solution of how to connect lights.

  • johndelucca Apr 08, 2011

I should mention that the wiring diagram I have shows #3 as brake light and #4 as rear brake light. I think we are way off

  • johndelucca Apr 08, 2011

If I do not connect #10 and # 11 as shown and wire same as original. Will this creat problem with diagnostics?

  • johndelucca Apr 09, 2011

My level of expertise is high. I will make some diagrams for you and attach if that is possible. Maybe then you and I will be on same page and can resolve my question. Thanks. I'll be in touch. John

OK I did not know what optional indicator harness was for. I'll have to order one of those.I guess my real question is, if I have lead going to indicator light and module without using optional harness, is this going to affect module?

Yes was helpful. Lack of info in Ultima instructions cause some application problems. I think I can work with answers I recieved

Hi.
i have just read the instructions for this harness.
i am not sure if you are using the indicator harness mentioned.
if you are, then orange (3) and red (4) are the live feed for the bulbs for oil and neutral respectively.
if you are not, then just connect an ignition live to the feed for both of these bulbs.
you may have to track the wires in the console for this, depending on the age and style of the console. if the console itself does not have oil and neutral lights, just fit suitable buld holders/covers where required and either use the wires from the indicator harness or an ignition live.

from the neutral light , connect the yellow wire (10) from the rear harness, to the neutral switch. there is only one wire connected to the neutral switch as it earths itself through the engine.

from the oil light, connect the green wire (11) from the rear harness to the oil light switch. again, only 1 wire as it earths itself through the engine.

i hope these are clear enough. it is difficult to write exact electrical descriptions without knowing the exact console setup, and without knowing your level of expertise with wiring.
if you need more specific help on these wires, please feel free to ask again

    hi.

this link is for the instructions i am veiwing. http://www.ultimaproducts.com/18-530.pdf

the orange (3) and red (4) wires are on the indicator harness.
it is 3 and 4 on the REAR harness that do the brake lights.
the instruction i am looking at appear to show an optional extra harness for the indicators.
i think this may be causing part of the confusion

10 and 11 on the rear harness plug ARE connected as in the instructions i have.
from the plug on the loom, they go to the neutral and oil respectively.
it is from the console socket itself that they go to the bulbs inside the console.

    hi.
you should be able to wire the indicators separately without affecting the main module, but the indicator system would probably not be covered by the diagnostic unit without the indicator loom

Can't find neutral safety switch on 1993 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail

'93 Heritage Softail doesn't have a neutral safety switch. It does have a switch that turns on the dash neutral light when the bike is shifted into neutral. It is located in the transmission top cover, and will probably be under the oil tank.

I have 06 street bob the wires to the left rear turn signal were broke i fixed them and turn signal works but parking and stop light dose not i changed the panle in the tail light and turn signal module...

Hi Anonymous, always check fuses and bulbs first for broken filaments. Then check the connection at the rear fender wiring harness, inspect for corroded, broken or loose pins. Use a dab of dielectric grease and repair as necessary. Check your brake relay if you have one , check your brake light switches for continuity, some models rear turn signals were single filament bulbs only, no running light. If all else fails get out your test light and start tracking the power wire from the harness connection. For a free wiring diagram please visit the website below and good luck:

Fuel tank removal/fuel pump removal

First, remove the seat and disconnect the battery. Disconnect the hose at the bottom of the gas tank. Place an approved container on the ground and allow the gas to drain out of the tank until empty. Remove the console over the speedometer assembly.Remove the bolts connecting the tank to the frame. Remove the screw in front of the seat, at the back of the Harley-Davidson gas tank. Lift the tank up a little bit and disconnect the wiring harness from the tank. Lift the tank off the frame, taking care not damage the fuel line connections on the tank.

There is no fuel pump on a Harley Fat Boy.

I'm looking for a owners manual for my 2006 harley street bob. I'm wanting to take the tank off to get it painted.

I think a service manual is a good idea. However, I took the tank off my 2004 fat boy without one and it was all pretty straight forward. Everything is arranged well including the wiring which all all good plugs. One thing you might want to consider is (if your not used to dealing with different types of electrical plugs), getting the electrical plug disconnect tools from Harley.
Good luck
