Need to change oil any tips and how many quarts go back 3?

You will need at least 4 quarts of oil , a spin on filter, and a filter wrench. Most Honda's of your vintage use 3.4 quarts so fill carefully and do not over fill the motor. Check the level with the motorcycle standing up straight. Be sure to use only oil that has the JASO MA certification on the label. Do not use any oil that says Energy Conserving on the label it will shorten the life of the wet clutch and transmission gears. Use 10w-40 in colder climates and 20w-50 in summer or warmer climates. Synthetic oils will help your cycle run cooler and shift easier.

What is the proper way to cheak the oil

make sure the bike is upright (i.e not on side stand), pull out the dip stick, wipe it then put it back it (do not screw in). This should give you accurate readings
